It was a dumb decision to kick the while Cheslin was running to charge down the kick.

So with 3 minutes to go, NZ 4 points ahead, and the ABs in possession at a ruck a few metres inside the Irish half, the NZ halfback decides now is the time to give the ball back to Ireland - to give the opponent one last crack.

The low-percentage box kick was what Ireland were hoping for from Smith.

NZ could have retained the ball hitting up runners, passing to put pressure on the Irish defence, which in turn may even have forced the Irish to concede a penalty.

Instead, it was Ireland who held the ball for remainder of the game (deep in NZ's half), until Sam Whitelock's turnover.

Perhaps someone can explain to me the genius of Smith's decision.

Tell me why I am wrong.

Well stated! The kick was worse than getting the yellow card. The dumbest thing that Smith could have done! Yet it seems to be ignored by all and sundry!

Both teams were under immense pressure with adrenaline pumping and fatigue at highest levels. Such was the contest.

Half backs get smashed by bigger opponents, 6 ft 5 - 6 ft 7 monsters who could destroy you and steal the ball.

You’ve got 1.5 seconds to see something then decide to kick or pass.

No, teams are to good at the breakdown these days if you play safe and get a clean out wrong Ireland get a penalty and a 30-40metre head start.

Well Done All Blacks

YES to Southern Hemisphere.

Well done All Blacks and Ireland. It is tough play, when one has to rely on an "impartial" ref.

Let's us respect each others teams!

But hej - I am looking forward again to a Springbok - All Black final!

I acknowledge that the best team won on the night but we no longer respect Zealand rugby like we did we will make life on the pitch he’ll for yous in the future the ref was poor ground rugby has no place in the modern game. Explain why players are allowed to go to ground in multiplayer and why Ireland were penalised in the scrum area and it was the NZ props on the ground. Early penalties hurt Ireland crazy referees

funny to see how you dont mention the countless times ireland players got away with tackling nz players around the neck. The all blacks have one of their worst winning percentages with Wayne Barnes as ref who has been consistently bad for the all blacks (2007 france quarterfinal forward pass for instance). There was no excuse, Ireland had their best chance with Wayne Barnes as ref and still didnt make it despite how much they also got away with themselves.

Once again Ireland came into a world cup as No 1 and once again the QF curse could not be broken... To all the Irish fans - You'll never participate in a Rugby World Cup final you'll only watch it on the tv. Thanks for coming - at least this time you do not have to travel so far home but its still empty handed.

Show some respect. Ireland was incredible and who knows what their future holds

J

I look forward to Nick Bishop yet again telling us how NZ's defence is it's weakness. Those wide turnovers were gold...black gold.

AB’s were immense. Massive reply to all their critics, game plan on point, Cane was immense. Won the game with 2 yellow’s

C

No, they had three kiwi pros, Allblacks a man short for 20 minutes. Ireland did well but they did end up short.

New Zealand should be both relieved to be in it at half time and disappointed they don’t have a lead.

Who has it in the second half? Ireland to find their mojo on attack or All Blacks to settle down their nerves and clinically drive them into the ground?

S
Scott 567 days ago

How NZ dominated most the first half they should of been pissed they didnt get more reward.

J
JW 568 days ago

A shame, the Irish just don’t know what it’s like to play finals footy. Some dumb, or arrogant, play at the beginning. They should have won that.

Huge pressure on Ireland just to finally escape the quarters after Sexton and a myriad of others like Aki, O'Mahony, etc, all failed to deal with the pressure of expectation in 2019, pressure that's now off the charts.

Allblacks have no expectations, they're not expected to win by anybody, most fans think they're weak and most of the retiring players won the world cup in 2015 so they're there for the spectacle, to make up the numbers as they bring to a close their worst ever modern coaches tenure with a shellacking at the hands of the Irish All-stars.

B
Blanco 569 days ago

Worst NZ world cup performance of all time if they lose. All NZ hopes are in Ireland caving to pressure. This is a final for NZ. just a QF for Ireland.

B
Bill 569 days ago

Huge game for both teams I can't believe anyone in their right mind would write of the All blacks ok they lost to France but they have got better and know how to play the tournament

p
pof 572 days ago

Is anyone actually seriously writing the All Blacks off? Anyone who actually understands rugby? I doubt it.

C
Cripple 572 days ago

Shellacking? Maybe. Lets hope the A.B's play to a level that tests the Irish team, if for nothing else a good preparation match for the lads in green. Should they be victorious I hope they go all the way.
