Billy Searle avec deux clubs la saison prochaine

Le Biarritz Olympique (Pro D2) s’est officiellement attaché les services de Billy Searle, l’ancien meneur de jeu des Wasps et des Worcester Warriors, pour les trois prochaines saisons.

Le transfert du joueur de 27 ans au Pays basque devrait avoir lieu après la Coupe du monde, qui a lieu du 8 septembre au 28 octobre, au cours de laquelle Searle sera le joker du Stade toulousain (Top 14).

La nouvelle aventure de Searle promet d’être chargée pour sa première saison. Récemment appelé par le Stade Toulousain comme joker le temps de la Coupe du Monde, il jouera donc pour deux clubs en une saison en rejoignant les rangs du Biarritz Olympique, qui cherche à renforcer son effectif.

Ayant exercé exclusivement dans le Championnat anglais, Searle apporte une riche expérience de son passage. La saison dernière, il a joué pour les Worcester Warriors avant d’être transféré à Bath en raison des difficultés financières du club. Cette saison, il n’a participé qu’à cinq matchs.

Dans un premier temps, Searle prendra la place de Romain Ntamack dans ses nouvelles fonctions à Toulouse, avant de devoir se battre pour sa place à Biarritz, où – selon RugbyRama – il devra faire face à Christopher Hilsenbeck, recruté pour une seule saison, et Ilian Perraux, présent au club depuis 2018 et sous contrat jusqu’en 2024.

You are correct about them having some level potential talent pipeline, at least so far as u20 success and Leinster’s academy indicates but that’s the point, it’s potential talent. And that means there are two factors at play: 1. there’s no guarantee on where the ceiling is for them 2. it takes time to be fully realised. One thing that Prendergast is proving beyond doubt is that oven baked superstars just don’t exist, JAS for oz is ofc the exception to prove the rule. Also need to take into account the reliance of project players in key positions for Ireland and that channel is effectively closed to them now with the 5yr rule, which only increases the demands further still on the pipeline to step up its production. IF they succeed in the medium term, and it’s an incredibly large if, then fair play because it will require greater success across every level of the irfu structures than Ireland have ever been able to deliver at any other time.

With the volume of key players Ireland need to replace already PLUS those not far from departing, there is no way they are positioned to maintain top 2 world ranking levels through the coming years. Just compare and contrast with SA, where Rassie is totally in control of a coaching machine vs irelands disconnect now that Schmidt & Lancaster have gone, and the same goes for their match day squads. SA could name two separate teams and meet potentially meet each other in the final, not a cat in hell’s chance that applies to Ireland, now or at any time!

Looking at it as an outsider, the fact that he and Aled Walters both walked so soon suggests to me that the environment they walked into was not the one they were led to believe they would find during their recruitment, interviews and appointment. Sure, one could say that’s on them for not doing their homework properly or for maybe being overly optimistic about the change they could bring. But I think most people have at one point or other in their careers accepted jobs with a certain set of promises and expectations, only to find the reality is different or far worse than they imagined. And that is mostly the fault of the employer, not the employee.

I like Les and think he would be a great coach for the Wallabies, but can’t help feeling a more conservative coach like McKeller suits the national gig just thinking that Aussie players by nature already play a bit loose.

If you compare him to Love, you can go and do it right now, I did it months ago, he beats Love in most everything from memory, especially defence.

But you did somehow hit the nail on the head! He is his own worst enemy in general with his laid back style. What makes him great at what he’s good at, but when you compare him to someone who is completely the opposite like Love, it’s what stands out as the actual difference (rather than stats telling the true story).

He was on fire in 2023 with such great form those errors for being a fraction slow reacting/thinking were few and far between. He wasn’t close to those same standards last year, but obviously it was still wrong for players like Fihaki to be selected ahead of him just because hes a short drive, rather than flight, away.
