L’équipe de France masculine s’est qualifiée pour la finale du tournoi du Cap en éliminant les Fidji (17-15) et retrouvera l’Afrique du Sud.

Quelle demi-finale ! Les Bleus sont venus à bout des Fidji, vainqueurs du tournoi de Dubaï dimanche dernier, et retrouveront le pays hôte l’Afrique du Sud plus tard dans l’après-midi en finale.

Cette qualification, les joueurs de Benoit Baby sont allés la chercher au bout du suspense. Ils ont tout d’abord égalisé dans les toutes dernières secondes grâce à un essai signé Simon Désert, alors que les Flying Fijians pensaient avoir pris un avantage définitif en marquant à 30 secondes de la fin.

Il restait encore, pour éviter le golden score, à réussir la transformation. Le long de la ligne de touche, Enahemo Artaud s’y est collé. Et là où le buteur fidjien a échoué, le jeune tricolore a passé son coup de pied, qu’il a accompagné d’un cri de rage qui a retenti dans tout le Cape Town Stadium.

Dans cette demi-finale, ce sont les Français qui avaient le mieux démarré, avec un contre fulgurant conclu par Célian Pouzelgues (2e).

Ils ont ensuite réagi dans les secondes qui ont suivi l’égalisation fidjienne par une réalisation signée Liam Delamare, avant de survivre au carton jaune adressé à Paulin Riva (8e).

Cette nouvelle garde bleue a décidément des tripes, et aura l’occasion de marquer un peu plus son territoire en cas de victoire finale, après la démonstration contre la Nouvelle-Zélande en poule (47-15) et ce succès arraché aux Fidji.

I agree about where Bath are now, but I think they’re moving on in leaps and bounds. I suspect they’re further ahead at this stage than van Graan expected.

Next year, they might be able to have a punt at the Champion’s Cup as one of the contenders. Players like Pepper (who might become something special) will have a year under their belt, and they’re strengthening with signings like Santi Carreras and Arundell.

It’s a very tasty 23 they will be able to put out next year if they have reasonable luck with injuries.

Will be a close match but Crusaders look to have a significant edge at home, fresher after their bye week whilst Chiefs showed frailty against the Hurricanes. Added incentive is that the winner will have the inside running for finals matches. Also want vengeance for bad loss to the Chiefs early in the season.

given the black ferns normally beat australia by 40 or 50 pts I think its pretty unrealistic to expect a very close game but big improvement for australia would be a 33-15 type scoreline

Having to play a top 5 team 6-7 days before a QF when your opponent doesn’t is not an even playing field. You are risking injury and fatigue against an opponent who had Uruguay as a last macth 9 days before.

Put it this way. SA beat France by a single point. They had clearly done their homework.

If their preparation was hatcheted by having to beat Scotland 6 days before, and Kolbe and Arendse get injured. Do they beat France with those extra disdvantages?

Recall SA played their best team against Scotland.

Rassie and Foster were screaming publicly for Ireland showing respect to Scotland by playing their best team. Could you imagine if Ireland had played a weakended team and lost?

The bleating of arrogance you hear about Leinster now would pale into significance compared to that earthquake!

If (in hindsight) Ireland should have risked the Scotland match to have a better chance in the quarter than that is a bad coaching decision. Ireland were relatively weak compared to the coaching heavyweights in SA and NZ and one more voice in the room might have made a difference.

But until there is a level playing field you cannot blame other factors with any confidence with such tight results. The draw dominanted and ruinend the RWC 2023 RWC. The NZ-Arg semi was a complete mismatch and SA were so fatigued in their semi that a poor but fresh England almost made a final. Farce.

'It's time for a change': Leinster fans turn on Leo Cullen in wake of loss

They haven't won the European cup since 2018 and the URC since 2021. In fact they never won the URC. Leo Cullen has the highest win rate of all Leinster coaches, but scoring 50-0s in pool games or against an opposition who start the match already defeated is well and good, but pointless if you always trip in the few high pressure games that matter. Leinster are a show pony who play like they are coached but don't seem to have the moral resilience or the ability to adapt when things don't go their way… and that's down to coaching…

If Farrell picks Pendergrast for either Ireland or the Lions, he should be fired on the spot.

The lad can’t play rugby at even a club level currently - he was pretty much the sole reason Ireland lost the Grand Slam and he was the rest the D4 kids shite the bed yet again.

As amusing as that was for the actual supporters of Irish Rugby to enjoy.

Good point on squad size Andy and I can see a squad of say 39 announced, with a rationale of accommodating the late arrivals of mssrs Kinghorn and Willis (a great pick for captain imo) from France but also providing the scope to include Farrell and Marcus.

Good to read a more pertinent and direct assessment of Leinsters predicament, a far clearer perspective on the relevant questions at hand, than the Hans Christian Andersen versions we’ve seen from some people on here!
