L’ancien président de Provale parmi les 100 Africains les plus influents

Le controversé Robins Tchale Watchou, ancien président de Provale, le syndicat des joueurs de rugby en France, a été nommé parmi les 100 Africains les plus influents par le New African Magazine.

Ancien joueur de rugby professionnel devenu entrepreneur international et PDG de Bowency, anciennement connue sous le nom de Vivendi Sports, l’ancien deuxième-ligne a réussi imposer sa société comme un acteur innovant en Afrique en lançant par exemple la première ligue afro-européenne de MMA, Ares Fighting Championship, et en pilotant des événements prestigieux comme la CAN 2023, les Jeux africains au Ghana, ou encore les Jeux de la Francophonie à Kinshasa.

Sous son égide, Bowency a également organisé le tout premier championnat du monde de cyclisme des moins de 23 ans en Afrique, marquant une étape importante dans le développement du sport sur le continent.

« Cette reconnaissance prestigieuse souligne son leadership visionnaire et ses contributions remarquables au développement du sport, de la culture et du divertissement dans toute l’Afrique », indique le magazine.

Huit ans de casseroles à Provale

En France, le dernier souvenir que Robins Tchale Watchou a laissé est nettement moins glorieux. Celui qui se rêvait même président de la FFR a vécu une fin de dix ans de mandat pour le moins houleuse.

Entre 2016 et 2024, une vingtaine d’employés ont été licenciés ou ont présenté leur démission (de gré ou de force) de l’institution qui n’emploie pourtant que huit personnes à temps plein.

Sous sa présidence, Provale a été condamné à verser des sommes conséquentes à d’anciens salariés que ce soit pour licenciement abusif ou harcèlement moral et discrimination.

RMC Sports révélait que l’ensemble des procédures avait coûté au syndicat des joueurs, subventionné à 80% par la Fédération Française de Rugby et la Ligue Nationale de Rugby, près d’un demi-million d’euros, soit 50% de son budget de fonctionnement.
