Après la Nouvelle-Zélande l’an passé, cette fois c’est le Canada qui va accueillir le WXV 1.

Après une affluence record enregistrée lors des World Rugby Pacific Four Series en 2023 et, grâce à la présence de l’équipe nationale dans le top 4 du classement féminin de World Rugby présenté par Capgemini, le fait d’accueillir la compétition annuelle la plus importante du calendrier féminin suscitera encore plus de passion.

Entre-temps, dans le sillage de la dynamique créée en 2023, le WXV 2 retournera en Afrique du Sud et le WXV 3 à Dubaï, offrant aux équipes un environnement de haute performance de classe mondiale.

Le tournoi de cette année débutera plus tôt afin d’aider à la planification des performances et à une meilleure préparation des fédérations pour l’édition féminine de la Coupe du Monde de Rugby 2025. Les trois niveaux joueront pendant les trois mêmes week-ends pour permettre aux six places de qualification d’être confirmées immédiatement après la fin du tournoi.

WXV 1 – Vendredi, 27 – Dimanche, 29 septembre
WXV 2 – Vendredi, 4 – Dimanche, 6 octobre
WXV 3 – Vendredi, 11 – Dimanche, 13 octobre

Les qualifications 2024 sont lancées

Les qualifications pour le WXV débutent en mars, avec des fédérations du monde entier se disputant l’une des 18 places pour les différents niveaux, dans le cadre de leurs compétitions régionales.

Des matchs compétitifs lors de la dernière journée du WXV 2023 ont déterminé les positions régionales dans les trois niveaux pour 2024, à l’exception de la dernière place dans le WXV 3 qui sera déterminée par un match de barrage entre la Colombie (dernière du WXV 3 2023) et les Pays-Bas (l’équipe la mieux classée de la région alternative).

Sur la voie de l’édition féminine de la Coupe du Monde de Rugby Angleterre 2025

Quatre équipes ont déjà assuré leur place pour la Coupe du Monde de Rugby féminine 2025, après avoir atteint les demi-finales de l’édition précédente, disputée en Nouvelle-Zélande en 2022. Il s’agit de la Nouvelle-Zélande, championne du monde en titre, de l’Angleterre, championne des Six Nations féminines Guinness et du WXV, du Canada et de la France.

Six autres équipes se qualifieront en tant que vainqueurs de six tournois régionaux en 2024 (Championnat féminin Asia Rugby, Six Nations féminines Guinness, Championnat féminin Oceania Rugby, Pacific Four Series, Coupe d’Afrique féminine et barrage Sudamerica).

Les six dernières places seront attribuées aux équipes du WXV les mieux classées qui ne se sont pas encore qualifiées au travers de la RWC 2021 et des tournois régionaux décrits ci-dessus.

Une pause en 2025

Le WXV s’interrompra en 2025 pour l’édition féminine de la Coupe du Monde de Rugby en Angleterre, et un examen complet du tournoi sera entrepris avec les fédérations participantes pour s’assurer que, collectivement, le WXV continue à soutenir des objectifs de haute performance et commerciaux en préparation de la Coupe du Monde de Rugby féminine 2029 en Australie et au-delà.

Le calendrier des matchs du WXV, les lieux et les informations sur la billetterie seront annoncés dans les semaines à venir.

If it hadn’t been for the rain I think Scotland would have won by 18/20 points. The score flattered Wales, they appear to have little creativity in their backs.

Yes I’d have Stevenson above all. Doesn’t that tell you how fullback has the least depth?

Why wouldn’t you want him scoring a try a match at fullback?

Otherwise you’ve named the two 10s NZ will need, one 10 that they should be trying to pasture out, a winger that got dumped from the side, and a winger that hasn’t yet seen enough consistency to make the ABs. These are you’re fullback depth? LOL! 😜

What wing depth is there? Stevenson, Narawa, JB, … Love, Nani-Seturo to name a few. Clarke, Telea, Rieko, Tangitau, Springer, Carter, all immediate test starters on the wing for me! 😋

Look I just don’t want another 10 at fullback. I want someone who will take the line on. That’s definitely not Dmac because he’s far too small to be carrying the ball into contact at internationa level. I wouldn’t mind a Perofeta there because even if he’s not a great runner I think he could be the best at making use of all 3 backfield options on the counter attack. Shaun is another good option simply because I like his instincts, theyre more open than most, and he’s got that triple threat like Perofeta. I haven’t seen Love do enough good things to think he’ll succeed at test level, he’s getting so much support simply because people don’t like the other options.

A try a match wingers simply don’t last. I’m seeing that with Jordan as well, I simply think people are way over rating his ability on the right wing these days, but I’m perfectly happy for him also to be given a chance to prove he’s still got it. It is much the same circumstance with Rieko. Telea is probably the best winger in the world, so he stays there for me.

The other Tele’a is certainly the most imposing, Frank Bunce like center we have at the moment. I almost whish we were like France and didn’t give a crap about winning every game just so we get to see how the side can play with different styles of players.

MZ: I think Gleeson is being outplayed by his replacement Leafi Talataina who is a huge talent. The problem is we can’t hold onto all of our backrow stocks and with Gleeson gone it’s not a problem.

Tupoa is a worry, but to quote Hagler,” It’s tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5 a.m. when you’ve been sleeping in silk pyjamas.” I think the time has passed when we can blame the Achilles tendon. As a pro player, he is destroying his opportunity due to too much love from too many people. He should go to Tonga and speak to others who have let the opportunity go to waste.

Seru Uru and Rob Leota are both in fine form depending on what you want, Rob L offers the hard work of a 6 or Seru gives you the linking and speed. This allows Schmidt to play either one depending on the opposition. The #8 offers a similar option with Bobby V and Rob L being a ground winning combination or Seru and Wilson for a more open game.
