Retour de Willemse après 5 mois d’absence

Le deuxième ligne international Paul Willemse effectuera son retour au sein du pack de Montpellier samedi à Bayonne, lors de la 4e journée de Top 14, après plus de cinq mois d’absence, selon des informations obtenues vendredi auprès du club héraultais.

Willemse (31 ans, 32 sélections), d’origine sud-africaine, n’a plus joué depuis le 7 avril, lors des 8es de finale du Challenge Cup. Ce jour-là, il avait subi sa deuxième expulsion de la saison face à l’Ulster (17-40), pour un plaquage dangereux, ce qui lui avait valu une suspension de cinq semaines.

De plus, le joueur (130 kg, 2 m) avait souffert d’une nouvelle commotion cérébrale, entraînant trois mois d’arrêt.

Arrivé à Montpellier en 2015 en provenance de Grenoble, Willemse est sous contrat avec le club héraultais jusqu’en juin.

Le puissant deuxième-ligne avait également été exclu deux mois plus tôt, lors du match d’ouverture du Tournoi des Six Nations avec l’équipe de France contre l’Irlande, une exclusion qui avait contribué à la défaite (17-38) des Bleus.

Écarté de la Coupe du monde en France à cause d’une lésion à la cuisse, Willemse avait été rappelé par Fabien Galthié pour participer à ce premier match et remplacer le Toulousain Emmanuel Meafou, blessé.

Le centre international Arthur Vincent (24 ans, 18 sélections) et l’arrière écossais Stuart Hogg seront quant à eux absents. Vincent, victime d’une commotion cérébrale samedi contre Toulouse (11-20), doit observer une semaine de repos avant un possible retour contre le Stade Français. Hogg, de son côté, souffre d’une douleur au genou gauche.

Montpellier occupe la 9e place du Top 14 avant son déplacement samedi 28 septembre à Bayonne.
