Six Nations : Jonny Gray de retour avec l'Écosse

Le deuxième ligne Jonny Gray a été appelé mercredi parmi les 37 Écossais retenus pour la préparation du Tournoi des six nations 2025, près de deux ans après sa 77e et dernière sélection.

Le joueur de 30 ans n’a plus porté le maillot du XV du Chardon depuis mars 2023 et un match à domicile contre l’Italie dans le Tournoi.

Alors blessé, il a manqué la Coupe du Monde de Rugby 2023 et a décliné une convocation lors des test-matchs de novembre pour se concentrer sur sa reprise avec son nouveau club, Bordeaux-Bègles dans le Top 14.

Le sélectionneur Gregor Townsend avait exprimé sa « déception » à l’époque mais ne lui en a pas tenu rigueur. L’Ecosse débute sa campagne le 1e février contre l’Italie puis accueille la semaine suivante l’Irlande, tenant du titre, également à Murrayfield. Le capitanat reste confié à Sione Tuipulotu.

Le centre des Glasgow Warriors sera notamment chargé d’accueillir deux nouveaux venus, tous deux âgés de 25 ans : le demi d’ouverture néo-zélandais des Saracens, Fergus Burke, dont un grand-père est né à Glasgow, et le centre des Glasgow Warriors, Jack Mann.
