SVNS : Privée de ballon, France 7 s'incline face à l'Argentine

Avec deux défaites en trois matchs de poule, France 7 devait attendre pour espérer être qualifié en tant que meilleure troisième pour les quarts de finale.

L’Argentine a frappé en premier par Joaquin Pellandini (2e) et le score est resté ainsi jusqu’à la pause. Conscients que rien qu’une victoire serait importante, les Argentins ont voulu tempérer, maintenir les rares assauts des Français privés de ballon et dégager vite pour la pause. Prudence.

En face, la France était désespérée de récupérer le ballon et chaque grattage se révélait précieux, mais sans être concrétisé. Pas encore qualifiée pour les quarts, l’équipe savait que tout se jouerait aux points. Et c’est ce qui allait se passer.

Mais la seconde période s’est poursuivie sur le même modèle que la première : une possession argentine et un essai (Agustin Fraga) ; avec en plus un carton jaune sur Parez, accusé d’être trop pressé et acharné pour récupérer un ballon.

Dès son retour et avec une possession, les Français ont montré qu’il fallait compter sur eux avec cet essai de Parez à 13 secondes de la fin. mais le chrono tournant trop vite la transformation leur était refusée. Deux points qui s’envolent. Précieux pour la suite.

Les Bleus s’inclinaient 12-5. Malgré tout, ils se qualifiaient miraculeusement pour les quarts de finale où ils joueront une fois encore l’Argentine… à 2h13, heure française !

I’m not sure what you took of my post but I’d like rugby to be more acessable, not ring fenced to certain countries like NZ and SA. Though I’m not sure what giant forwards advantage you’re referring to, massive fatties?


Also I’m heavily against the one code rugby that South Africa is creating with their monotone Rugby League type forwards. I want diversity, not everyone at 120kg.


I’m afraid you’re just anti the ideas of rugby if you think they should revolve around South Africa or something. Nick referred to your rugby as being like league, in league all forwards are the same average weights just like with the SB. He’s right, it’s bad for the game.


You can’t be a tall lock anymore in rugby because you’re too light.


You can’t be a short front row anymore because then you won’t be able to put on enough weight.


You can’t be a slight halfback anymore because you’ve got massive roided up like blitz forwards all around you.


These are new problems. Nothing to do with what rugby has been like before. That’s where I think the game is better off being and going back to the fitness it used to require is the way to get there.

He doesn’t need to earn his place, just like Jordie doesn’t. Fainga'anuku has consistently been one of the best Centres in the TOP 14 over his entire two year deal. Not to mention he’s played for the All Blacks before, so he already has a foot in the door.


As much as Robertson rates Havili, he still prefers Fainga'anuku. Let’s not forget Fainga'anuku is one of the overseas players he met with last year, in an effort to convince them to come back home, and with both ALB and Havili in their thirties now, he needs a new 12/13 cover for the bench. The fact that Fainga'anuku can also play Wing makes him an incredibly valauble player.

You’re not listening johnz, or skeptical without saying so. Why does father time catch up? And he’s never been fast, that’s part of the point with Tele’a, speed isn’t his asset, so he can’t lost it! He doesn’t need it like other wings do, so if he melded experience with his ability to beat defenders, it would be more of a boon than having Reece for example. It wasn’t a case of Tele’a over the next unknown youngster, it was over someone ever older and who arguably relies on that speed you’re referring to. Reece and Tele’a are the only top wings in NZ who play on the right.

The answer to the question of choosing to go to Ireland or stay in SA is as follows:


How many kids from SA that joined NH clubs straight out of school have gone on be first choice starters for their clubs and play for their adopted national teams?


The fact of the matter is that development of South African rugby players does not start & end at school level, that is only the first hurdle.


The real development comes from the proverbial “gladiatorial fight for their life” over the next 2 to 4 years in the SA university and provincial setups to rise above the rest of the players.

Love it! Absolutely Love’s it! Did i go too far there?


BTW I’m one who gives credit to Rieko for his defence at least, I’d be absolutely OK with him being used to switch into center late in games if they are using a 6-2 bench and only because the 23 is someone who can play in the backfield, like a Love. But I only really see a need to sub Proctor in his first season/half season, otherwise he should be a 80min with no need for Rieko other than to start there.

Yeah, Higgins is just genuinely running to the line and keeping his options open before he delivers the ball. Fake plays are so easy to see. He also did something inconsequential at one point like bob and weave a couple of tackles before off loading, but he did it in a way where he took a couple of steps and delivered it around the back of the guys he’d just slipped by etc. It just made getting to the gainline for the player he passed to so easy and helps building phase momentum.

Outside of one game recently for Proctor at the Canes, there hasn’t been a single center performance of note outside of ALB this season in NZ teams. Tupaea and ALB were awesome in the first half of the season, cruel injury.

So you’ve outed Hoopers name because he’s your 6?


Would be interesting to see similar stats of the 6’s, and what roles those 8’s have, like kick returning etc. From where I sit I really don’t think you should have anyone other than bobby V at the pack, and I’ve liked what I’ve seen from a bunch of the 6 options to make that happen. None set though. Wilson gets one start for sure at the back but I’m not picking it’s first up/

Great point about the breakdown. The Aussies have been even fiercer than normal this year at contesting for the ball and it’s happening everywhere. With International refereeing and interrelations as unpredictable (you maybe have a better feel for this if you’re watching all that rugby over the weekend?) as ever they risk making their game a lottery with the wrong ref.
