I agree, it depends on what Schmidt is looking for but I think Tizzano is lagging behind in the pilfer stats and that is something which will be crucial in the Lions Test and for the Wallabies. McReight having played less minutes is still ahead of him, Reimer is ahead of them both by some margin but don’t see him featuring in the Lions series for Wallabies.

I’m sticking my neck out here a bit but having watched the Bok’s JN defence a bit what strikes me is they a key element is an aggressive tackler at 10 both in the in urial harassment of the opposite 10/12 but after the initial push as a sweeper. HP, SFM are both aggressive strong tacklers and ML is a real terrier and has made some try saving tackles out wide. They all have en appetite for tackling. Prendergast doesn’t seem to like tackling and I didn’t see much enthusiasm for putting his body on the line. My understanding is that if you are committing to the rush D every cog must be doing its job.

A hard read this time Nick but as always backed by observations.

One of the big problems in coaching Australia seems to be speaking nicely but carry a big stick. I think Les will do the nicely bit and add some variation to play, but the Wallabies can easily slip back into old habits unless they are held to account.

Schmidt has a reputation that anyone in rugby could appreciate, including all the players. When he wields the big stick, they understand where it’s coming from. Not sure the current players will give Les that understanding when tough decisions need to be taken.
