TJ Perenara quitte les All Blacks pour le Japon

Le demi de mêlée des All Blacks, TJ Perenara, champion du monde en 2015, s’est engagé pour trois ans avec les Black Rams Tokyo, un club de la Japan Rugby League One, a annoncé la Fédération néo-zélandaise de rugby vendredi 2 août.

Par le passé, le club de Black Rams Tokyo avait signé d’autres joueurs de l’hémisphère Sud comme Ma’a Nonu et Stephen Larkam.

Âgé de 32 ans et fort de 81 sélections avec la Nouvelle-Zélande, Perenara quittera les Hurricanes, avec lesquels il a joué pendant 12 ans, à la fin de l’année. Il détient également le record du nombre d’essais inscrits en Super Rugby, avec un total de 63.

Perenara fera partie de l’équipe néo-zélandaise qui participera au Rugby Championship, où le premier match les opposera à l’Argentine le 10 août à Wellington.

TJ Perenara remise donc le maillot noir à l’issue du tournoi à la fin du mois de septembre, conformément aux règles d’éligibilité pour la sélection néo-zélandaise. En effet, les All Blacks ne sélectionnent actuellement que les joueurs évoluant en Nouvelle-Zélande.

Il suit ainsi la voie tracée par d’autres illustres All Blacks avant lui : Brodie Retallick, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Aaron Smith, Beauden Barrett, Richie Mo’unga…

Le demi de mêlée a fait ses débuts avec les All Blacks en 2014, avant de devenir champion du monde en 2015. Après une blessure au tendon d’Achille en fin 2022, il a retrouvé le terrain en juillet dernier lors d’un test match gagné contre l’Angleterre.
