Top 14 : le Néo-Zélandais Plummer signe à Clermont

L’ouvreur international néo-zélandais Harry Plummer a signé un contrat de trois ans à l’ASM Clermont à partir du 1er juillet 2025, a annoncé le club de rugby mercredi dans un communiqué.

Agé de 26 ans, Plummer, qui compte une sélection avec les All Blacks, évolue cette saison avec les Blues d’Auckland avec lesquels il a gagné le titre en Super Rugby en 2024.

« Il est le genre de joueurs qui a les épaules pour nous aider à franchir un cap sur le plan sportif mais qui nous rassure également sur l’attractivité du club », souligne le président de l’ASM Jean-Claude Pats dans le communiqué.

You are correct about them having some level potential talent pipeline, at least so far as u20 success and Leinster’s academy indicates but that’s the point, it’s potential talent. And that means there are two factors at play: 1. there’s no guarantee on where the ceiling is for them 2. it takes time to be fully realised. One thing that Prendergast is proving beyond doubt is that oven baked superstars just don’t exist, JAS for oz is ofc the exception to prove the rule. Also need to take into account the reliance of project players in key positions for Ireland and that channel is effectively closed to them now with the 5yr rule, which only increases the demands further still on the pipeline to step up its production. IF they succeed in the medium term, and it’s an incredibly large if, then fair play because it will require greater success across every level of the irfu structures than Ireland have ever been able to deliver at any other time.

With the volume of key players Ireland need to replace already PLUS those not far from departing, there is no way they are positioned to maintain top 2 world ranking levels through the coming years. Just compare and contrast with SA, where Rassie is totally in control of a coaching machine vs irelands disconnect now that Schmidt & Lancaster have gone, and the same goes for their match day squads. SA could name two separate teams and meet potentially meet each other in the final, not a cat in hell’s chance that applies to Ireland, now or at any time!

I like Les and think he would be a great coach for the Wallabies, but can’t help feeling a more conservative coach like McKeller suits the national gig just thinking that Aussie players by nature already play a bit loose.

If you compare him to Love, you can go and do it right now, I did it months ago, he beats Love in most everything from memory, especially defence.

But you did somehow hit the nail on the head! He is his own worst enemy in general with his laid back style. What makes him great at what he’s good at, but when you compare him to someone who is completely the opposite like Love, it’s what stands out as the actual difference (rather than stats telling the true story).

He was on fire in 2023 with such great form those errors for being a fraction slow reacting/thinking were few and far between. He wasn’t close to those same standards last year, but obviously it was still wrong for players like Fihaki to be selected ahead of him just because hes a short drive, rather than flight, away.
