Le demi de mêlée Jake Gordon des Waratahs Jake Gordon jouera à Montpellier l’année prochaine. À 31 ans, l’Australien était également pisté par les Chiefs d’Exeter mais il devrait rejoindre l’Hérault à la fin de son contrat avec Australia Rugby.

C’est en tout cas ce que l’on pouvait lire sous sa photo de profil sur le site de la franchise de Sydney, avant que le paragraphe indiquant que Gordon « a signé avec le club du Top 14 français Montpellier, fin 2025 », ne soit modifié.

Gordon avait failli signer à Perpignan l’an dernier, avant que la fédération australienne ne bloque son départ.

Toujours en Top 14, mais cette fois dans le sens des départs, Newcastle chercherait à faire venir Paddy Jackson, joueur du LOU depuis 2023. L’ouvreur irlandais n’a passé que 38 minutes sur les terrains cette saison (deux entrées en jeu) est sous contrat jusqu’en 2026 mais le club lyonnais ne devrait pas s’acharner à conserver le joueur.

Newcastle, en difficultés financières, veut Paddy Jackson

Les Falcons, derniers de Premiership, sont cependant en difficultés financières. Ils cherchent à emprunter la somme de 4 millions de livres auprès de la Premiership et du fonds CVC Capital Partners pour continuer à fonctionner.

Du côté de la Pro D2, la course à l’armement continue. Provence Rugby cherche à s’attirer les faveurs du demi d’ouverture gallois Gareth Anscombe, 33 ans, rappelé par l’équipe nationale pour les trois derniers matchs du Tournoi des Six Nations.

L’ancien international U20 néo-zélandais, actuellement à Gloucester et sous contrat jusqu’au mois de mai, a disputé 11 matchs cette saison et a confié la semaine dernière viser la Coupe du Monde 2027.

Enfin, Brive, a engagé le demi de mêlée de l’Ulster John Cooney pour les deux prochaines saisons. L’international irlandais (11 sélections) s’est déclaré « très heureux de rejoindre Brive, c’est un club ambitieux qui partage mes valeurs. Cela fait longtemps que le rugby français m’attire. J’ai hâte de rencontrer les supporteurs et de relever ce nouveau défi. »
