Transferts : Montpellier et Perpignan pistent un flanker de Harlequins

Montpellier, Perpignan et Provence Rugby ont fait des offres au flanker des Harlequins Will Evans en vue de la saison prochaine.

On le sait, Montpellier a déjà engagé les grandes manœuvres en vue de la saison prochaine. Après les quatre arrivées annoncées ce jeudi, le MHR a fait une offre à un 3e ligne des Harlequins, mais le club de Mohed Altrad devra faire face à la concurrence d’autres clubs français.

Le flanker Will Evans (1,84 m, 103 kg), ancien international anglais U20, arrive en fin de contrat avec les Quins et pourrait bien traverser à son tour la Manche, comme de nombreux compatriotes l’ont fait ces dernières années.

Le joueur de 27 ans a toutes les chances de s’installer sur les bords de la Méditerranée l’été prochain. Non seulement il tient entre ses mains une offre des Héraultais, mais il est également dans les petits papiers de Perpignan et de Provence Rugby (Pro D2).

Borthwick ne l’a jamais contacté

En six saisons aux Harlequins, Evans s’est imposé comme un combattant féroce, excellant dans l’art du grattage. Il a de plus terminé la saison passée en tête des plaqueurs en Premiership et de la Champions Cup.

Des performances qui lui ont valu de rafler deux prix : celui du joueur de la saison décerné par les joueurs et celui décerné par les fans.

En avril dernier, il avait confié que le sélectionneur de l’Angleterre Steve Borthwick ne l’avait jamais contacté en dépit de ses états de service. De quoi conforter l’hypothèse d’un départ à l’étranger, et plus particulièrement en France afin de décrocher un gros contrat.
