Over 7,000 shatter Haka world record in Rotorua

World record haka in New Zealand

Over 7,000 people shattered the world record for the biggest ever haka in Rotorua just hours before the British and Irish Lions broke a record of their own in New Zealand on Saturday.

Around 7,700 of all ages – including Lions fans – were said to have turned out in force at the Village Green in Rotorua.

The previous record haka was performed by 4,028 participants in France three years ago, but that was blown away this weekend.

It was then the turn of the British and Irish Lions to put on a show of their own, defeating the Maori All Blacks 32-10 at a wet Rotorua International Stadium.

The victory for the Lions was their most emphatic ever against the Maoris a week before they face the world champions in the first match of the three-Test series.
