All Black loose forward returns for Crusaders for crunch clash
All Black loose forward Ethan Blackadder returns for the Crusaders to notch his 50th game in Canberra against the Brumbies.
The dynamic workhorse has been named as vice captain on the blindside, with Tom Christie and Christian Lio-Willie forming the loose forward trio.
“I can’t wait to get out there on Friday; any game of footy is good fun so I’m looking forward to it,” says Blackadder.
“One game is special, so to run out there in that jersey 50 times is extra special.”
Last week’s captain David Havili has been rested for the key clash, with one cap All Black Dallas McLeod named in the midfield alongside former Moana Pasifika centre Levi Aumua.
Hooker Codie Taylor will take the captaincy reigns off Havili.
“The Brumbies are very capable side, they’ve got strengths all over the park and their DNA hasn’t changed a great deal over the years; they can beat you up, up front and capitalise when you give them penalties and then when they’re in the 22 they’re ruthless,” says Penney.
The crucial clash is vital to the final wash-up of the seedings, however if the Chiefs beat the Highlanders earlier in the evening the number one seed will be off the table.

Hopefully brilliant fullback Will Jordan and scrum maestro Fletcher Newell back next week for the Crusaders. Both were playing so well. Ethan Blackadder will be raring to go tonight in his come back game for the Crusaders. Some great match ups across the Park.
Fine player but cursed with injuries. 50 games in 7 seasons is tough going for a player of his ability.
Hope he goes well.
Good to see him back but how Razor can see him as a long term answer at probably 6 is beyond me
He will have a great game, thrash around then get injured again
However this does give the crusaders a better chance
Their forward pick alarmingly was outplayed by the tacticallly naive Highlanders last week
That includes Holland outplaying Barrett (which if they play for the ABs sounds like a UK health food chain)
If they dont improve the brumbies will win and finish in second
Good to see the magnificent Ethan Blackadder back in the Crusaders starting team. Also pleased in form Tom Christie, starting a long side of him. Big occasion for Ethan being his 50 Match for the Crusaders.Great to see Antonio Shalfoon pairing up with AB captain Scott Barrett in the middle row. Crusaders and Brumbies have played some epic games over the years, including 3 Finals.
