All Black Squire commits to Highlanders
New Zealand number eight Liam Squire has signed a new two-year contract with Highlanders.
The towering back-row forward only joined the Dunedin-based Super Rugby franchise from Chiefs last year, but has been linked with a move to Top 14 side Toulouse
But Squire, who won his eighth All Blacks cap in the win over Ireland in Dublin last November, has opted to remain with last year’s Super Rugby semi-finalists.
Highlanders took an alternative approach to announcing Squire’s new deal, posting a video on Twitter of the 26-year-old pulling his vehicle up to inform team-mate Joe Wheeler of his extended stay at the club.
“I have some news today, I have signed on with the ‘Landers and the NZRU for another two more years,” Squire told Wheeler.
