Wales great Alun Wyn Jones has been recalled by Wales and is officially ‘eligible for selection’, an WRU statement has confirmed.

He was hurt while captaining Wales in their Autumn Nations Series opener against New Zealand, and subsequently underwent two operations.

Yet it seems like he’s made another remarkable recovery having previously been told he would miss the entire Guinness Six Nations tournament.

He joined the camp last week ahead of France but was not considered for selection, which he will be against Italy, Wales’ final game of the campaign.

“Alun Wyn Jones (Ospreys) has been called up to the Wales senior men’s squad for the remainder of the Guinness Six Nations and is eligible for selection to face Italy in the final round of the Championship.

“Wales reconvene at their national training base on Tuesday 15 March to prepare to play Italy on Saturday 19 March at Principality Stadium, KO 2.15pm.”

Jones, apart from the New Zealand game, and his fellow British and Irish Lions such as George North, Leigh Halfpenny, Ken Owens and Justin Tipuric have been unavailable to Wales head coach Wayne Pivac this season because of injury.
