Aussie Club Grades - Week 14

What a weekend for Australian teams! It finally happened and an Australian team beat a New Zealand team at the 40th time of asking. Here are how the teams fared this week:

Reds – C

So so close for the men from Queensland. They never allowed the hot favourite Hurricanes (the Reds were paying $19 at kick off) to get away.

Every time the New Zealanders scored a try, the Reds would respond with one of their own and Taniela Tupou, nicknamed the Tongan Thor, had the type of game that has many people excited about his future.

They will look to build on this performance by taking their first Kiwi scalp for a while when the Highlanders come to Suncorp next week.

Waratahs – A+

Well they did it! The Waratahs were the team to end the hoodoo.

After last week’s gut-wrenching loss to the Crusaders, the Tahs dusted themselves down and put a 14-man Highlanders team to the sword.

Winger Tevita Nabura was sent off in the 19th minute for a ridiculous kick into Cam Clark’s face coming down from a high ball and that allowed the Tahs to go for the jugular.

They made hard work of it at times but a final score of 41-12 was fairly resounding.

Brumbies – D

The men from the Capital threw this game away.

Leading by 4 points with 20 minutes to go Rory Arnold saw red for a high tackle and a minute later Sam Carter received a yellow. Down to 13 men they were unable to contain the high powered Lions attack and they conceded a further 3 tries.

Going to the High Veldt next wee to face the Bulls they will need to ensure their discipline improves, especially with the Sunwolves starting to pick up a couple of results.
