A cryptic tweet from England prop Joe Marler has left rugby fans once again scratching their collective heads.

Marler is currently sidelined with a “short-term” injury and didn’t feature in Harlequins’ Champions Cup game with Racing 92 at The Stoop.

It may have been a case of the devil making work for idle hands, with Marler taking to Twitter to cause mischief.

Marler, who is known for toying with his followers on the social media platform with deliberately vague tweets, posted at 4.06 pm: “Awful competition. Lost its magic. A***holes.”

Many took him to be taking a snipe at the introduction of South African teams in the Heineken Champions Cup and the Challenge Cup this season. The Bulls, the Stormers, the Cheetahs and the Sharks are taking part in Europe’s elite club competition for the first time. However, given that his tweet came during FIFA World Cup final in Qatar, it was unclear what competition he was referring to.

Marler had been openly critical of South African inclusion in the ‘European Cup’ previously, delivering an awkward post-match interview with BT Sports recently in which he mocked the idea that Harlequins had to travel to South Africa to compete in Europe.

“You want to talk about Europe and we’re going to Natal Sharks next week,” Marler said. “Which is where?” It was a take that wouldn’t have earned him any fans in South Africa.

Marler’s humourous antics have made him popular with fans and have earned him a reputation as a joker within the rugby community. While the loosehead’s sense of humour has often been on display on social media, where he has been known to post amusing takes on things. In addition to his on-field and online antics, Marler has also been known to engage in humorous banter with reporters and during post-match interviews.

I usually consider myself more of a purist, and I love Joe Marler, but have to disagree with him on SA teams in the Champions Cup...with a catch.

Ideally, South Africa should have its own domestic competition. Just make an 8 team Currie Cup the top flight of domestic rugby in South Africa. But I also understand why they don't want to do that. Not enough talent for 8 high quality squads and way more money joining up with Europe.

So then if SA teams are going to play in what would otherwise ideally just be the Celtic League + Italy, and that league has a pathway to the Champions Cup, then they should be able to qualify if they earn it.

Leinster cleanse palette with record URC scoreline against Zebre

My name is Solenn Bonnet, and I am a single mother navigating the challenges of raising my two-year-old child while trying to make ends meet. I came across a trading platform that promised astonishing daily profits of 18%. The allure of such a high return on investment was too tempting to resist, and I found myself drawn into cryptocurrency trading. Excited by the prospect of financial freedom, I invested a significant amount of my savings, totaling over 5.7 BTC. However, what started as a hopeful venture quickly turned into a nightmare. The platform was a scam, and I lost everything I had invested. The emotional toll of this loss was immense; I felt devastated and helpless, struggling to provide for my child and keep up with my bills. In my desperate attempt to recover my funds, I sought help from various recovery experts. Unfortunately, I encountered numerous fraudulent individuals who claimed they could help me retrieve my lost money. Each time I reached out, I was met with disappointment and further scams, which only deepened my despair. Last year was one of the most challenging periods of my life, filled with anxiety and uncertainty about my financial future. Feeling overwhelmed and at a loss, I confided in a close friend from church about my situation. She listened compassionately and shared her own experiences with financial difficulties. Understanding my plight, she introduced me to Tech Cyber Force Recovery, a group of skilled hackers known for their expertise in recovering lost funds. Skeptical yet hopeful, I decided to reach out to them as a last resort. Their services came at a higher cost, but my friend generously offered to help me with a partial payment. I was amazed by how quickly they responded and began the recovery process. Their team was professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire ordeal. To my relief, they successfully recovered more than I had lost to those heartless scammers. This was truly transformative, and I felt a sense of relief and gratitude that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I strongly encourage anyone who has faced similar challenges or fallen victim to scams to reach out to Tech Cyber Force Recovery. If you’ve invested in a fraudulent platform like I did, they are highly capable of helping you reclaim your hard-earned money. Don’t lose hope; there is a way to recover what you’ve lost.
