Bad news Ulster... Marcell Coetzee's season is effectively over
Ulster-based Bok loose forward Marcell Coetzee underwent surgery in South Africa this past week.
He has had recurrent left knee problems, because of a laxity in his previously repaired ACL, and to repair this he has had revision surgery performed on this ligament.
His anticipated return to play time is nine months. Coetzee has played just one game this season for Ulster, in the 42-19 win over the Cheetahs last month.
Before that his last game for Ulster was against Zebre in March. The Bok flank, who has played the last of his 28 Tests against Argentina in 2015, suffered the latest knee injury early this year.
Coetzee lasted just 19 minutes of his side’s 68-21 win over Zebre before he hobbled off. He had only made his debut for Ulster in February, despite having joined them in September last year.
That was because of the knee injury that kept him out for most of 2016 and cut short his final Super Rugby season with the Sharks.
