'We're in a better spot now': Blues captain still hopeful after tight defeat

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND - JUNE 02: Patrick Tuipulotu of the Blues (R) is congratulated on his try during the round 15 Super Rugby Pacific match between Blues and Highlanders at Eden Park, on June 02, 2023, in Auckland, New Zealand. (Photo by Phil Walter/Getty Images)

The Blues travelled to Christchurch to take on the Crusaders with high hopes on Friday night, after back-to-back wins for the first time in Super Rugby Pacific 2025.

But the Crusaders had other ideas, winning the round ten encounter with the last kick of the game, as replacement playmaker James O’Connor successfully kicked a penalty after a dominant scrum victory.

Rob Penney and the Crusaders sit top of the Super Rugby Pacific table, winning seven of their nine matches so far this season. Vern Cotter and the Blues move up to eighth place after a bonus point in Christchurch.

Despite the loss, Blues captain and All Blacks lock Patrick Tuipulotu admits the performance is something to build on.

“It was a game of fine margins and we can be proud of our effort. I think we had to be physical and I think Crusaders did that, especially around our breakdown and crucial times down in their half, we didn’t capitalize,” Tuipulotu told Jeff Wilson from Sky Sport after the match on Friday evening.

“But we’ve got to be proud and build on this.”

Tuipulotu says his team have improved their performance over the past couple of weeks and having experience like Beauden Barrett has helped massively.

“I think it’s positive for us, we’re getting things right and I feel like we were completing sets.

“We were getting good go forward and I think just our game management because having Beauden there, especially on our kicking game, helps us.

“I think we saw we got some reward in terms of kicking the ball down in that area.”

The 51-Test All Black believes his side will come back stronger next week against the Reds in Brisbane.

“I think it’s important for us to go back and sort of build on that. We can’t really get into our shells now, just because of a close loss, it really matters to us, and I think we’ll sort of get close tonight and regroup and come back stronger on Monday.”

Tuipulotu explains that Blues head coach Vern Cotter has had simple instructions throughout this tough period, telling his players to stick to the game plan.

“Yeah, it’s been pretty crucial. I think Vern has been pretty good in the last few weeks, just around saying less is more for us, and I think we’re overplaying, doing too much before, but I think we’re in a good spot now.”

Leinster cleanse palette with record URC scoreline against Zebre

My name is Solenn Bonnet, and I am a single mother navigating the challenges of raising my two-year-old child while trying to make ends meet. I came across a trading platform that promised astonishing daily profits of 18%. The allure of such a high return on investment was too tempting to resist, and I found myself drawn into cryptocurrency trading. Excited by the prospect of financial freedom, I invested a significant amount of my savings, totaling over 5.7 BTC. However, what started as a hopeful venture quickly turned into a nightmare. The platform was a scam, and I lost everything I had invested. The emotional toll of this loss was immense; I felt devastated and helpless, struggling to provide for my child and keep up with my bills. In my desperate attempt to recover my funds, I sought help from various recovery experts. Unfortunately, I encountered numerous fraudulent individuals who claimed they could help me retrieve my lost money. Each time I reached out, I was met with disappointment and further scams, which only deepened my despair. Last year was one of the most challenging periods of my life, filled with anxiety and uncertainty about my financial future. Feeling overwhelmed and at a loss, I confided in a close friend from church about my situation. She listened compassionately and shared her own experiences with financial difficulties. Understanding my plight, she introduced me to Tech Cyber Force Recovery, a group of skilled hackers known for their expertise in recovering lost funds. Skeptical yet hopeful, I decided to reach out to them as a last resort. Their services came at a higher cost, but my friend generously offered to help me with a partial payment. I was amazed by how quickly they responded and began the recovery process. Their team was professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire ordeal. To my relief, they successfully recovered more than I had lost to those heartless scammers. This was truly transformative, and I felt a sense of relief and gratitude that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I strongly encourage anyone who has faced similar challenges or fallen victim to scams to reach out to Tech Cyber Force Recovery. If you’ve invested in a fraudulent platform like I did, they are highly capable of helping you reclaim your hard-earned money. Don’t lose hope; there is a way to recover what you’ve lost.
