Can you guess who this is?

Sam Whitelock

A famous All Black has a fresh new look, all in the name of charity.

Sam Whitelock has gone clean-shaven for the first time in years over the weekend, and in doing so raising $15,000 for a cancer fund formed by former All Blacks logistics manager Kevin ‘Chalky’ Carr.

Carr was initially diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2016. The disease’s return prompted the establishment of the Chalky Carr Trust to raise $100,000 for seven-year-old Isla Lunn, whose mother Kellie died of breast cancer.

Whitelock’s fearsome beard hadn’t been trimmed at all in the 2017 season, which saw him captain the All Blacks in their final test against Wales in Cardiff.

It’s likely that it will have grown back to a reasonable length by the time he’s seen on the field again when Super Rugby starts in February.
