Cardiff Rugby have confirmed that they are investigating allegations relating to an ‘apalling’ incident in a city centre pub which involved a number of their players.

Cardiff were beaten 31-18 by South African URC rivals the Lions at the Arms Park on Friday night but hit the town 24 hours later as part of a team social.

It has been alleged that the were angry exchanges between a number of Cardiff players and members of staff at The Grange on Penarth Road in the city. According to a member of staff who posted on Reddit the players in question caused ‘chaos’ at the premises.

It has also been claimed online that the players were ejected from the pub but not before some of their number bizarrely threw eggs on the floors and tables of the watering hole.

Wales Online journalist Matthew Southcombe wrote on Twitter: “Cardiff Rugby will meet with the management of a city centre pub tomorrow to ascertain the facts of an alleged incident that is said to have taken place last night. A now-deleted post on Reddit claims some players engaged in ‘appalling’ behaviour and were asked to leave. Cardiff say ‘appropriate action will be taken should the allegations be confirmed’.

Cardiff Rugby have addressed the claims and released the following statement:

“Cardiff Rugby are aware of an alleged incident that took place in a city centre pub on Saturday evening (October 1).

“The club have made contact with the pub in question and a meeting will be held tomorrow (Monday, October 3) with Cardiff Rugby representatives and the pub’s management in attendance to ascertain the full facts.

“Cardiff Rugby does not condone the alleged behaviour and the appropriate action will be taken should the allegations be confirmed.

“No further comments will be made at this time.”

After beating Munster in Round 1, Cardiff have now lost two on the trot as Dai Young looks to steer the side back into the top half of the URC table after a difficult season last time out.

All Blacks player ratings vs Italy | Autumn Nations Series

Rieko took literally years to turn from a defensive liability at 13 into a guy, who’s defensively sound as it befits the position. And it all came at the cost of him being much less of an offensive threat, than what he used to be. Proctor is a natural 13, he handles, passes, and kicks way better than Rieko ever will, he just isn’t as fast.

It’s unfair to judge Tupaea on the handful of games he’s had in 2022 before he got nearly crippled by a Wallaby lock. What could Tupaea/Proctor pairing be, if they got the same amount of chances as Jordie/Rieko?

Because no matter how you spin it, playing a player outside of his natural position is a poor asset management. No matter how talented he is, he still competes against players who had years and years of practice at the position. And if said guy is so talented that he actually CAN compete against specialists, imagine how much better still he could have been, if he had all those years to iron the toothing issues at the position. It just drives me mad.

Two things I hate in rugby union beyond description: aping after league, and playing players outside of their natural position. Especially considering, that they all admit they hate it, when they’re allowed to speak freely. Owen Farrell spent 80% of his international career at 12, saying every time when asked, that he is a 10 and prefers to play at 10. Those players are literally held at a gunpoint: play out of position, or no national jersey for you.
