Clermont hit back to deny Stormers debut win

Clermont roared back in the second half to open their Heineken Champions Cup campaign with a 24-14 victory over the Stormers in France.

The three-time finalists trailed the United Rugby Championship title-holders 14-3 at half-time, with Deon Fourie scoring the Stormers’ first try in European competition and a further nine points coming from the tee.

However, John Dobson’s tournament debutants could not add to their haul after the interval and Clermont recovered with tries from Alex Newsome and Alivereti Raka, while Jules Plisson took his tally for the match to 14 points.

Opinions are opinion but he’d get in trouble for stating that as a fact if it was an outright lie. Razor hasn’t quite denied it. Also, it makes a lot of sense given how the team’s been going, particular in those second halves when you’d expect coaches to have made adjustments.

I don’t agree with all of his opinions, but this appears to be inside information on how the team is organized and if so, it’s glaring.

If you believe what Gregor writes you need your head examined. His articles continually criticise Robertson and now he has become the great Foster fan. I suspect that was a change of heart because he wanted to write his book.

And in a recent article he wrote that BB has locked in the number 10 position up to the RWC and is NZs best candidate for that place.

Both DMac and BB are poor tactical kickers. And that is a huge part of a modern number 10s game.

Also they are not reliable goal kickers. And neither of them take the ball to the line.

I would rather Rehana and Jacomb get selected for the NZ XV. Then they will be guaranteed game time rather than watching two old men in the number 10 position.

All the SH teams are subpar (at best) and will get destroyed when they come north.

The “rugby championship” is a third rate comp full of third rate teams.

At 7, the returns of Dixon and in the near future Louw will be important to watch. They're both good blind siders and give you lineout options too.

At 6, watch out for Paul de Villiers, he's a young rising star that has the potential to become a world class fetcher, working alongside Deon Fourie could be vital for his development and growth.

The ranking points angle of the article doesn't make much sense.

One should look at the rankings in context. From a South African point of view, the woman's rankings simply reflect where the game is. Having only one professional team is by definition better than none, but it needs to grow. The potential is clear and obvious considering how the team performed at Woman's RWC 2025.
