Cowan-Dickie takes cheeky swipe at French after failed Montpellier move

England hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie took to social media this afternoon with a cheeky tweet following the news of his move to Sale Sharks.

The 30-year-old posted the tweet following on from his reported move to Alex Sanderson’s side, which itself comes after his deal to join French side Montpellier fell through in recent weeks.

Despite missing out on England’s Rugby World Cup with injury, the fact that he will be playing his rugby domestically means he will almost certainly be extending his England Test career.

Sale Sharks are set to announce their acquisition of the talented front rower for the upcoming season. The transfer offers the now former Exeter Chief a fresh start after the disappointment of the failed switch to Top 14 giants and a string of significant injuries.

The breakdown of Cowan-Dickie’s much-anticipated move to France came after at least one missed medical appointment, but more pointedly the stricter regulations in French rugby regarding neck injuries, which are thought to have ultimately been the deal breaker.

In response to the reporting of the Sale move, Cowan-Dickie shared a playful tweet on Twitter.

Accompanied by a picture of a pie and a can of bitter, he wrote, “I never really liked croissants anyway…”

This lighthearted response from the British & Irish Lion shows his ability to find humour in the situation despite what must have been a fraught few months for the star.

While Cowan-Dickie’s move to France has failed, tighthead Harry Williams will be heading to the south of France after the club officially confirmed his transfer today.

The Fergus Burke test and rugby's free market

"So who were these 6 teams and circumstances of Marcus's loses?"

so in the 2023 six nations, England lost both games where Marcus started at 10, which was the games against Scotland and France. The scotland game was poor, but spirited, and the french game was maybe the worst math england have played in almost 30 years. In all 3 games where Marcus didn't start England were pretty good.

The next game he started after that was the loss against Wales in the RWC warmups, which is one of only three games Borthwick has lost against teams currently ranked lower than england.

The next game he's started have been the last 7, so that's two wins against Japan, three losses against NZ, a loss to SA, and a loss to Australia (again, one of borthwicks only losses to teams ranked lower than england).

"I think I understand were you're coming from, and you make a good observation that the 10 has a fair bit to do with how fast a side can play (though what you said was a 'Marcus neutral' statement)"

no, it wasn't a marcus neutral statement.

"Fin could be, but as you've said with Marcus, that would require a lot of change elsewhere in the team 2 years out of a WC"

how? what? why? Fin could slot in easily; its Marcus who requires the team to change around him.

"Marcus will get a 6N to prove himself so to speak"

yes, the 2022 six nations, which was a disaster, just as its been a disaster every other time he's been given the reigns.
