Former All Blacks first five-eighth Dan Carter has shared a cheeky farewell letter he received from a young fan on social media.

Carter has been playing for French club Racing 92 since retiring from international rugby in 2015, and announced late last year that he would be joining Japanese side Kobelco Steelers at the conclusion of the 2018 Top 14 season.
A young fan sent the 36-year-old a farewell letter prior to his departure.

In English the letter reads:
“Thank you for having signed my ball. It’s my first autograph. I am a fan of rugby. I even make my mother shout when I play with my little brothers in the corridors of our house. I know that you are leaving for Japan, I wish you all the best for the future. Remi.”
Carter said on Twitter that the final paragraph was particularly entertaining.
The final paragraph reads:
“PS: How much did New Zealand pay the referee in 2011? The question is from my father; me, I always respect the decision of the referee.”
It can be assumed that the young fan’s father is referring to the 2011 Rugby World final, in which the All Blacks beat France 8-7 to lift the William Webb Ellis Trophy for the second time.
Carter left New Zealand as a three-time World Player of the Year, test centurion and all-time international and Super Rugby leading point scorer.
