Dan Carter loses sponsor after drink-drive arrest
Land Rover has ended a sponsorship deal with Dan Carter following his arrest for drink-driving in Paris last week.
The fly-half, who plays for defending Top 14 champions Racing 92, made no excuses and reiterated an earlier apology as he confirmed Land Rover had cancelled its deal with him on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
The contract had only been signed in September.
Carter was pulled over at a police checkpoint near the Champs-Élysées. According to reports he had a alcohol level of 0.98g/l. The legal limit in France is 0.5g/l, the equivalent of a small glass of beer.
Shortly after the news broke, Carter apologised for what he described as ‘a massive error of judgement’ and has since returned to New Zealand for a brief holiday while he recovers from injury. He will face a court appearance in connection with the charges at a date to be confirmed when he returns to France.
