Dan Lancaster could switch Test allegiance as URC club eye Racing 92 star

Glasgow Warriors have emerged as shock contenders to bring Racing 92 fly-half Dan Lancaster back from the French capital when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Lancaster, 23, has been in superb form for Racing since they sacked his dad, former England and Racing 92 Stuart, at the start of February, just 18 months into a four-year contract.
Racing have won five of the last six games the former England U20 playmaker has played in the Top 14 and Challenge Cup as they look to end the season with silverware and their place amongst French rugby’s elite secured.

The ex-Leicester Tigers, Nottingham, Yorkshire Carnegie and Ealing Trailfinders player, who has played 1,110 minutes in 23 games for Racing this season, mainly thanks to Owen Farrell’s fitness problems, is Scotland-qualified via his Dumfries-born grandmother.
Lancaster, who also plays inside centre, followed in his father’s footsteps when he was named in the Scotland under-18 squad in March 2018 after impressing coach Iain Monaghan.
Lancaster senior played for Scottish Students and Scotland Under-19, and the Scottish Rugby Union are keen to look at players who qualify under the Scottish Qualified scheme.
The Warriors are, on paper, well-stocked at fly-half with Adam Hastings and Duncan Weir both under contract for another season, and they have Scotland under-20 international Mathew Urwin waiting in the wings.

Lancaster has been tipped for a call-up to Gregor Townsend’s squad this summer for games against Maori All Blacks, Fiji and Samoa, with Blair Kinghorn and Finn Russell likely to be unavailable.
The pair are tipped to become part of Andy Farrell’s Lions squad in Australia, which would open the door for Lancaster to pin his colours to the Scotland mast.
Lancaster, who moved to Racing last summer from Championship outfit Ealing, was being touted for the Scotland squad for the Autumn Nations Series, especially against Fiji and Portugal, but the call never came.
