Of all the kickers that have taken more than 75 shots at goal, MacGinty is the only player to have a kick-success percentage of more than 85 per cent.

He has 78 successful kicks from 90 attempts (86.67 per cent) since his debut in the league in the 2016-17 season ahead of Greig Laidlaw and John Schuster.

AJ MacGinty’s golden boot

Gloucester Rugby’s Laidlaw has nailed 130 from 158 attempts (82.28 per cent) to sit second in the overall standings ahead of Schuster who hit 120/148 (81.08 per cent).

Bristol’s Henry Honiball is fourth on the list after hitting 63/78 kicks (80.77 per cent) in the 1999-2000 season with Bath Rugby’s Jon Callard just behind him with 80 per cent success from his 155 kicks.

The only other current players in the top ten, who could topple MacGinty in the near future, are London Irish’s Tommy Bell (79.55 per cent) and Gareth Steenson (79.50 per cent).

Bell is sixth while Steenson, who has attempted the most kicks of those players inside the top ten with 678, is seventh ahead of Newcastle Falcons’ World Cup winning hero Jonny Wilkinson.

The fly-half who kicked England to World Cup glory in 2003 landed 498 kicks at goal from 635 attempts between 1997 and 2009 with a success rate of 78.45 per cent.

The top ten is rounded off by Jannie de Beer, of London Scottish and Saracens, who succeeded with 72 of 92 attempts at goal (78.26 per cent) and Jarrod Cunningham who landed 208/266 (78.20 per cent).
