Eastmond and Pennell cited

Two players have been cited by the RFU followed this weekend’s Premiership action.

Leicester Tigers centre Kyle Eastmond and Worcester Warriors fullback Chris Pennell will both appear before an independent disciplinary panel this week.

Eastmond has been charged for a dangerous tackle, contrary to Law 9.13. The alleged incident occurred in the match between Bristol Bears and Leicester Tigers on 1 December when the Tigers’ centre tackled Bristol’s Ian Madigan in the 25th minute of the match.

Pennell has been charged with tackling Charlie Sharples of Gloucester Rugby whose feet were off the ground causing him to land in a dangerous position, contrary to Law 9.17. The incident occurred in the 57th minute of the match between Gloucester Rugby and Worcester Warriors on Saturday 1 December.

Both players will appear before a three-person independent discipline panel chaired by John Brennan in Coventry on Tuesday 4 December beginning at 630pm.

The Steve Borthwick reaction to a cruel England defeat

Ford completely took the energy out the game for us, waving his hands telling people to calm down. Just for us to die off and lose the momentum.

Bringing him on all the time to ‘close out’ games is condescending to Smith. Get Ford out and let Marcus Smith & Fin Smith run the show. The future is them so give them the keys and let them get on with it.

Taking Marcus Smith off was a big puzzle and probably cost England the game. However, Abs created more opportunities and scored some tries but left a lot out there through sloppy execution, not playing to the ref and no enforcement of English off-side play. The fact the game was close all through made it worth watching but it was a frustrating pectacle. English succeeded in slowing the game down and were in the refs ear which Gardner allowed. I think Ireland or France will punish the sloppy execution more than England so still much for ABs to work on.

I agree! ARs and Gardner ignored off-sides by England on multiple occasions. That said, the ABs did not adjust to the ref. Unfortunately, the spectacle became messy as a result.

I couldn't give a monkeys about the Haka. I actually suspect the triangular formation was specifically designed to give the photographers for Brand All Blacks better shots. Amirite?

I cannot believe the ARs didn't call England offside once. Every single time Ratima went to touch the ball, they shot out of the line before he had even touched it. Ridiculous.


Tackling off the ball is illegal, fine. But you can't run a support line where you run into our players and take them out either.

I loved it. Both teams advancing. The ENG fans would've loved the theatre too if they weren't so busy drowning it out. The English commentary team on TNT Sports were pumped calling the occasion "sporting rocket fuel". Brilliant.

The main problem with the ABs is the captaincy - Barrett is mia and has no influence with refs.

Speaking of refs - Gardner is a disgrace and the only positive thing I have to say about him is - he wont be reffing the Wallabies. Egotistical, inconsistent and myopic - simply woeful.

Yes but the sovereign of NZ is an English King not Maori. The dominant and ruling culture is not Maori. England also has a long history of Christianity so perhaps the Christian hymn would fit better in that country than the Pagan Haka in NZ(also a Christian country)?

England has historical links to their old colonies and in fairness 'Swing Low' its a better choice than a supremacist song.

Kiwis are indulged a lot getting the Haka played at every match in the order they insist on. In short.... lets all accept each others rugby cultures without the self righteousness and over policing?

We all like to have a go at England. But the rugby world is smaller now. Maybe more respect is the order of the times?

Everyone is saying the same thing after agonising England loss

The first half penalties against NZ were for speculative tackling because England were attacking so flat. If NZ didn't do this then it may have been tries and not penalties conceded earlier. I believe Felix Jones is still helping with the transition online. It was quite clear he wasn't helping in person with Earls in particular shooting up and leaving huge holes. NZ had a few that nearly stuck but the two tries by Telea were defensive errors. Furbank biting on Sititi leaving Genge to mark albeit great offload. Genge wont show Telea the outside again. Poor tacking on Telea for the second. That said he is a hard man to grab hold of.

Isolating Genge was clever for Jordans try. NZ spotted he was turning up in the line too often and they could leave a gap with that switch play. 6 day turnaround for Ireland now.

I imagine NZ will be better, but they will need to be a lot better.

Late blitz sees All Blacks XV secure testy win over Munster

Been a long time since they’ve lost to them, between Munster and Leinster in the last 8 or so years there’s been the Māoris, SA A, Uruguay and Chile that I remember off the top of my head.

They had a good game and nearly came back but lost to a few late scores, yeah that’s pretty heartbreaking for a team that lost to Zebre a few months ago that they nearly bounced back here.

Just a few thoughts. England stopped playing with 20 minutes on the clock, holding only an 8-point advantage. Ford kept telling everyone to calm down and just kicked all the possession away. Why didn’t Slade take the final kick, being left-footed? England went back to their usual style: a lot of box kicks and very little in attack. New Zealand deserved to win.
