Edinburgh confirm prop pairing to miss rest of season

Edinburgh have lost injured props Boan Venter and Luan de Bruin for the rest of the season. The club confirmed that the two players had both undergone “successful surgeries”.

The South African pair were both injured in the Challenge Cup win against Pau at the DAM Health Stadium earlier this month.

Former Cheetahs loosehead Venter, who has scored six tries in 25 appearances for Edinburgh, suffered a knee injury.

Former Leicester and Cheetahs forward De Bruin suffered a hamstring injury on his eighth appearance for Edinburgh.

Over the weekend Edinburgh were pushed all the way by basement club Zebre Parma in a 29-26 victory that strengthens their grasp on a United Rugby Championship play-off place.

Their unbeaten record at home this season remains intact, and the bonus point keeps them in the hunt for a top-four finish, but the hosts made heavy weather of the fixture.

Again, wrong.

All competitive Irish sides are governed by the IRFU. All have mandatory spot testing. U19 is the most junior age grade. It will include 17-18 year olds and a few 19 year olds who were still 18 before the cut off. This is the only way in which a 17 year old (child/minor) would need to or be able to get tested.

My own birthday is just after the cut off in early January. I was in 3 consecutive U19 squads aged 17, 18 and 19. I was tested 4 times, each time with a team mate at random. All tests included B samples.

Stop being wrong.

He wasn’t always going to start. He wasn’t even named in the original RWC squad due to his injury woes. He eventually took Max’s spot in the tournament but there was no way he was even certain to take part let alone start.
