England fringe player Tom West to stay at Wasps
Wasps have confirmed that prop Tom West, who is on the fringe’s of Eddie Jones’ England squad, has extended his contract with the club.
Having made his first-team debut in 2016 against Sale Sharks, the 26-year-old is a Wasps academy graduate and is approaching 50 Premiership appearances for Wasps.
West received his first call-up to the England senior squad in January 2021 ahead of that season’s Guinness Six Nations. The Wasps Under 18 graduate won the 2016 Junior World Championship with England Under 20s, appearing alongside Club colleague Jack Willis.
“We are delighted that Westy has agreed a new contract with us,” Wasps Men’s Head Coach Lee Blackett said. “I have really enjoyed watching his development as he’s risen up the pecking order here, all the way to being named in the England squad.
“Tom has become an integral member of our front row unit over the last few years, having come through our Academy.
“We are looking forward to seeing him continue to develop in Black and Gold over the coming seasons and to see where his career goes.”
West added: “I have loved my 10 years at Wasps, from Academy level to my time in the first team now.
“I am excited to commit my future to a Club that is very close to my heart. We have a great group of players, coaches and back-room staff and I can’t wait to continue my development with them.
“I love playing at Coventry Building Society Arena in front of our wonderful fans and I am looking forward to doing that for many more years to come.”
The loosehead prop joined the Wasps Junior Academy while still at Radley College. During his time in the Senior Academy, he cut his teeth with Henley Hawks, in National League One, and with Championship side Nottingham.
After impressing in the A League and Anglo-Welsh Cup, West made his Premiership debut during the course of a 2017/18 campaign which ended with the award of a first senior contract for the following season.
