Farrell learning plenty from Wilkinson

England fly-half Owen Farrell

England fly-half Owen Farrell praised Jonny Wilkinson, saying he had received “brilliant” help from the Rugby World Cup winner.

Wilkinson, the nation’s all-time leading points scorer, has been helping Eddie Jones’ coaching staff.

The 37-year-old has guided Farrell, who talked up the former playmaker’s influence on him.

“It’s brilliant working with him, he has a massive understanding of everything we are going through as players,” Farrell told BBC Radio 5 live.

He added: “You can speak to him whenever. [It’s] pretty constant. [I’ve learned] quite a bit, as you would imagine.”

England are top of the Six Nations table after opening their campaign with back-to-back wins.

They will be aiming for a 17th straight victory when they take on Italy at Twickenham on Sunday.

Tate McDermott made it quite clear the Wallabies hate playing the rigid dull kiwi style Schmidt is trying to impose on them, just as they hated playing under kiwi Thorn at the Reds for the same reasons. Hmmmm, are we seeing a pattern here ?


That is why Thorn and Schmidt went for the dull boring south African born Liam Wright as captain and why the Reds come alive when he is off injured.

The RWC is the ultimate prize in rugby but sadly a joke as rugby has never developed as a serious International sport in a global sense. Two average (arrogant) nations dominate the RWC. Ireland a tiny nation with rugby as the 4th largest game can dominate for a couple of years. Its a joke. The RWC in particular with its dodgy draws and old boy scheduling is reminiscent of bygone amateur era of sport. Do rugby nations want to win it? Ofcourse! Is it a clown show compared to other 'global' sports. Also yes.

These things can be true at the same time. Can you hold a couple of thoughts together at the same time son?


Again, do you have an issue with the rankings system apart from your idiotic non point about Portugal? No? Good, toss off moron!

Well done, somebody else has figured out Donaldson is completely hopeless. But he's from Randwick so gets a free ride in the Wallabies. If Schmidt is such an amazing coach, how come he is selecting Donaldson ? He is either an incompetent fool or he is just stroking his Tah master's ego. Same for Gordon.

The Tahs Peter Horne and Phil Waugh have Schmidt in their pocket. That's the only explanation for why Gordon and Donaldson are playing for the Wallabies. Neither of them are in the top three or even 5 best players in their position that Australia has. They will stick with Schmidt because they will take Rugby Australia down with them to protect the Tahs self entitled egos.

But because Schmidt has very cleverly refused to select them so far they will take time to integrate in to the team. He's a very cunning kiwi like Deans and Rennie. Don't select the best players for the Wallabies. Let them fail. Then select a new bunch of players who don't have time to gel before the next challenge. It's either completely incompetent selecting and coaching or it is deliberate sabotage. Personally I think it is deliberate sabotage which funnily enough, is hurting NZ too.

The political situation in SA is highly volatile, the country's crime rate is through the roof and it's not a safe country, no matter how beautiful it is. For such a broken country to bring forth such talent and for such racist people (just not true) to work together to go back to back WC champs, nevermind all the other current achievements, they seem to be united in passion and love for the sport that no other country possess. They should have thrown him a rugby ball, tackled him, declared him 'wrong side of the ruck' and studded the f**k out of him, 90s style, until his bodyguards broke it up.


NZ needs to stop this love affair with a monarchy. Having a European 'King of New Zealand' on the other side of the planet tying NZ to an undignified colonial history is something that the modern country should be able to move beyond.


The retort that the monarchy is now a benign institution does not bear any real scrutiny.
