Felipe Contepomi set for shock return to Leinster - reports

Felipe Contepomi

ESPN are reporting that Argentinian legend Felipe Contepomi is set to quit his role in the national set-up to return to European Champions Leinster.

Contempomi is the current head of the Argentinian XV side, but the former flyhalf would join Leinster as backs coach.

The move – if it goes ahead – comes following the departure of Daniel Hourcade from the headcoach position.

A qualified doctor, Contepomi is the Puma’s all time leading point scorer. Daniel Hourcade’s final game in charge of Argentina ended in a 44-15 defeat to Scotland in Resistencia.

Leinster lost the services of Girvan Dempsey, who joined Bath as Attack Coach and will head to the West Country ahead of the 2018/19 season.

That's really stupidly pedantic. Let's say the gods had smiled on us, and we were playing Ireland in Belfast on this trip. Then you'd be happy to accept it as a tour of the UK. But they're not going to Australia, or Peru, or the Philippines, they're going to the UK. If they had a match in Paris it would be fair to call it the "end-of-year European tour". I think your issue has less to do with the definition of the United Kingdom, and is more about what is meant by the word "tour". By your definition of the word, a road trip starting in Marseilles, tootling through the Massif Central and cruising down to pop in at La Rochelle, then heading north to Cherbourg, moving along the coast to imagine what it was like on the beach at Dunkirk, cutting east to Strasbourg and ending in Lyon cannot be called a "tour of France" because there's no visit to St. Tropez, or the Louvre, or Martinique in the Caribbean.

Probably blooded more new players than any other country but still gets stick. If any other coach did same , they would get ripped to shreds. When you are at the top , people will always try to knock you down.

A new coach won’t solve all our ills which are abundant, but as with Aussie coach and many soccer examples, a new voice can provide success in the short term, bring breathing space while the WRU, academies, regions, under 20’s etc can be totally stress tested, a system put in place for long term success. I won’t hold my breath. The WRU put Gatlands contract in place, which was over generous with no break clause-they should be the ones to take the hit when he goes. Walker first to be dismissed, his salary can contribute.

It’s obvious that Ben has beef with anything South African. Probably never set foot on the field with his limited knowledge .All the top teams are extremely close with a bounce of ball or contentious call impacting a result. Not all teams can stay at their pinnacle. The Boks are benefiting from good structures & depth at the moment. Could have , should have , would have & I might have been a millionaire. We will enjoy our time at the top but NZ will come again.

But a tough match is what is needed for the inexperienced in the group. Building depth etc.

He played a big role, as director of rugby prior to stepping in as coach, putting systems in place. He’s been involved in many of these players careers since they were teens or debutants at their provincial teams.


So I agree with you 100% it’s not Gatlands fault the pipeline of players is poor.
