FFR statement: Antoine Dupont's Friday night surgery in Toulouse

Antoine Dupont’s race to get back fit in time for the closing stages of the Rugby World Cup with France got underway late on Friday evening when he underwent surgery to mend the cheekbone fracture sustained the previous night versus Namibia.

The French skipper played just 45 minutes of that 96-0 Pool A win in Marseille on Thursday as he was caught in the face by the head of Johan Deysel, the Namibian captain who was red-carded following a foul play bunker review after he was initially sin-binned.

The injury sparked fears that Dupont’s Rugby World Cup campaign was over but there is now hope that his operation in Toulouse will see him rejoin the France squad in the coming days and ultimately be available for the quarter-finals on the weekend of October 14.

An FFR communication on Saturday morning read: “Following his injury contracted during the France-Namibia match, Antoine Dupont was operated on September 22 around 23:00 at the CHU Purpan in Toulouse. In a few days, he will be able to return to the France team in a process of gradual sports recovery and under medical supervision.”

It’s believed a plaque was inserted to strengthen Dupont’s cheekbone and the plan is for him to rest for a week before resuming training with the aim of being fit for a quarter-final match in three weeks’ time.

I was a bit worried I spoke too soon, but they pulled it back nicely. Theyre speaking more and more about how to take advantage of it, after Argentina no doubt, aren't they? Locks, with the rookie feeding it and rookie on the side unable to help Barrett, let them down in the first couple, didn't they?

WJ just came off injury, and MT is terrible in defense. Like, awful. Hard to watch sometimes. His carrying does not make up for it most of the time. Also, Razor is trying to play with a power wing (CC or SR or MT) and a technical wing (WJ or RI when ALB comes on).


Sam Cane played for the Chiefs, so I don't understand how that is Crusaders bias. There are only two crusaders in the starting forward pack: Codie Taylor (who is definitely the best hooker in NZ) and Scott Barrett (the captain and one of the best locks in NZ).


Razor is not allowed to select from players that are not in his TRC training group. So he couldn't pick Lakai or Lord if he wanted to. Also, plenty of new props are coming through so I don't understand that complaint? Williams, Newell, Tosi, etc. Sam Darry is a new lock coming through.


Payton Spencer is too young, Zarn Sullivan is overrated, same for AJ Lam. The hate on AS for a couple of bad games is crazy. I agree he would be better utilised at seven, but then who would play 6? Scooter? We just have to wait for Frizell to come back unfortunately, and Blackadder to stop being such a glass cannon.


The only player the All Blacks need is Richie Mounga. Damian Mackenzie had been fing awful. Like a wannabe white RM. Does not have the build, pace, kicking game, or IQ to be the All Blacks best option at 10.

Good start by Leinster. The change of gear at 12-19 down for 3 quickfire tries was impressive.

Prendergast looking a year older bigger and stronger. Some of his chip throughs were class. Slimani did OK as tight head, Piardi on the whistle maybe hard on him.

Yeah agreed, with ALB's small improvements and return to full fitness the last two years I think he's good enough to play 12 in order to unlock Jordie a bit more from the back. I'd prefer that to this weeks combo.

Oh I know why, and it's illogical. It's the definition of insanity, not to mention you don't even need what he's been proving he can't provide, against Australia.


They seriously need to actually take a step back and look at what good coaches like Joe and Rassie are doing with their squad. Even SB moved on from some good blackline players early. SA might lose this weekend but at least it what be because of weakness's in players they already know about!! Well maybe le Roux will be selected again and undermine my point, I hope not.
