Finn Russell has been quick to extend his apologies to a Bath supporter who ended up with a broken wrist during last week’s Gallagher Premiership encounter with Gloucester at the Recreation Ground.

A powerful clearance kick from the Scotland fly-half found its way into the crowd during the 42-26 victory over Gloucester, leading an enthusiastic fan – Emily – to attempt to punch the ball back.

Unbeknownst to her, she had sustained a fracture that would later be confirmed in A&E.

Emily’s partner, Connor, took to social media following the incident. He initially posted: “Finn the muscle Russell sent my girlfriend to A&E today with a hell of a kick! Broken wrist but still supporting Bath”.

After the post the Bath star personally reached out, offering both apologies and a signed match-day jersey, courtesy of Russell and the club’s kit manager.

Praising Bath’s “fan-oriented” culture, Connor lauded Russell for making a painful injury “all worth it.”

“Rugby is a team sport, rarely known for the individuals. Unless you’re Finn Russell. Even though my partner was collateral damage when Finn was doing his job for Bath.

“He still reached out to offer his apologies (even though he wasn’t at fault). Finn and the team kit manager also gifted her a match day jersey with a message. Confirming that Bath are not only the best club in England right now but the most fan orientated there is. Thank you Finn Russell. You’ve made her wrist all worth it,” posted the pleased fan.

As a gesture of goodwill the club offered both of them complimentary food and drinks at their next home match and they got to watch Bath defeat Harlequins 47-28 on Saturday night.

Bath notched up seven tries and securing a bonus point by the 22nd minute. Joe Cokanasiga and Will Muir led the early onslaught, while Max Ojomoh grabbed a crucial interception score. Quins fought back admirably, earning a late try bonus point.

Can someone ensure Russell signed “to Emily” (the injured party) on the jersey and that it goes directly to Emily and not via “It was all worth it” Connor?
