Referee Wayne Barnes handed out the red card

Uruguay hooker Facundo Gattas has received a three-match ban after being sent off for a dangerous high tackle.

Gattas was dismissed by English referee Wayne Barnes during his team’s World Cup Pool D defeat against Georgia two days ago.

World Rugby said that Gattas attended a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday and sought to overturn the red card, but Barnes’ decision was upheld.

Gattas will miss Uruguay’s remaining group games against Australia and Wales as part of his suspension.

He is the fifth player to be banned at the tournament for a dangerous tackle.

Huge task ahead.

Just a single win from 7 series in the professional era. An all-time series win record under 40%. I can’t see them playing 10 games across 6 weeks and still getting on the right side of the test series result.

Hope it’s a great series though.

It’s arguable that starting Davies in the 2nd test cost them the win - he waved Adam Ashley-Cooper in for a try late in the game. He didn’t trust BOD to make his own tackle (?) so went to cover the 13 channel and left the space.

The dangling earing accessory was OTT by Itoje as he could have simply worn the Stud that he usually does & no one would have mentioned/noticed it. I see in the pic included in this article with Itoje & Faz that the dangling earing is now not evident which is a better look so perhaps Itoje had been given some ‘advice’. What Itoje does in civvies is all fine but when you don the B&I Lions shirt, especially being announced as a B&I Lions Captain, the shirt/look doesn’t need to be accessorized with a dangling earing. I’m not small minded but rather a traditionalist & tradition is a word used by many when talking about the B&I Lions.

Here’s to an entertaining, enjoyable, engrossing series.

With the international rugby residency requirement being extended from 3 to 5 years will this be the most SH players in a lions squad? 6 players here qualifying through residency and Schoeman being the last player to qualify for the 3 years rule?

5 years feel much more reasonable going forward.

It doesn’t feel great having so many SH players in the British and Irish Lions (wish the Lions was more like State of Origin personally) but can’t complain when they qualified under the rules that were relevant at the time, they are British and Irish qualified, so more power to them many of these guys have been there yonks an

lol now is very much not the time to try Steward at 12. Moving him there never has, and never will, make any sense whatsoever. Not only would it squander his talents, but it would also block the development of Will Butt, Seb Atkinson, Max Ojomoh, and Joe Woodward.
