Five-year-old hospitalised after freak sideline incident in Argentina
A five-year-old has been left hospitalised after he was accidentally crushed by two players as he watched a rugby match in Argentina.
The incident happened during a fixture between Atletico Y Progreso and Monte Grande Rugby Club and the brutal collision was caught on camera and has since gone viral on TikTok.
The child’s leg was severely broken and he was left in an entire leg cast as a result of the freak accident at the game which was played roughly 50km south of the Argentinian capital.
Footage shows the boy was levelled by two players as one of the players attempted a last-ditch tackle as the other sped towards the try line. The hit drove the attacking player into touch, with the two 90kg players taking the boy with him.
Players rushed to the aid of the boy immediately after they realised that he had been caught up in the tackle.
The boy – the son of one of the coaches – was returning from the toilet when it happened and hence wasn’t being watched.
“It was unfortunate. One player tackles another and they take the child with them. It is not the first time an accident like this has happened.” said the Director of Monte Grande Rugby Club, ‘Cococho’ Alvarez.
It makes for ghastly viewing, not least since rugby fans are more use to seeing camera-man occasionally wiped out by players, as opposed to young children.
