Former All Blacks prop Alex Hodgman is in line to debut for the Wallabies this weekend after being named to come off the bench against Georgia at Sydney’s Allianz Stadum.

Hodgman played four Tests for New Zealand in 2020 before later making the move across the ditch after signing with the Queensland Reds. The prop was solid during Super Rugby Pacific this season and was rewarded with an international call-up.

The 31-year-old is one of two potential debuts in the matchday 23, with former Australia sevens and Junior Wallaby Darby Lancaster starting on the left wing. Lancaster was brilliant on the SVNS Series last year before putting pen to paper with the Melbourne Rebels.

Lancaster comes into the run-on side for utility Andrew Kellaway who drops to the bench. The winger will link up with try-scoring machine Filipo Daugunu and the ever-reliable Tom Wright in the outside backs trio.

Coach Joe Schmidt has made 10 changes in total to the starting side, which includes a first Test start of the year for Allan Alaalatoa who also takes over the captaincy from James Slipper who has not been picked.

“Georgia have proven to be a very tough team to play as demonstrated by their wins against Italy and Wales in recent years, as well as their victory last week in Japan,” Schmidt said in a statement.

“They have added some very exciting backs to their traditional forward strength and challenge opponents across the park.”

Two-Test prop Isaac Kailea comes into the First XV for the first time after being named at loosehead prop. Billy Pollard and Alaalatoa are the other front rowers.

Nick Frost and Angus Blyth will pack down alongside each other in the middle row, while Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight and the return of Harry Wilson completes the forward pack.

Tate McDermott is back in Wallaby gold after missing out in the second Test against Wales. The Queenslander joins Ben Donaldson in the halves, with Hunter Paisami and Len Ikitau named int the midfield.

The starting side also includes the previously mentioned trio of Lancaster, Daugunu and Wright. On the bench, Tom Hooper, Jeremy Williams and Noah Lolesio are among those looking to add impact.

Absolute disgrace playing for the enemy. Australia is a poverty country. So desperate for an international pay-check why not represent Fiji. A country of 27 million always trying to take our sloppy seconds. Is there any aussie’s in that team?

Why England's defence of the realm has crumbled without Felix Jones

The way they are defending is sometime pathetic to be honest. Itoje is usually on the inside of the rush and he is paired with a slower tight forward. Unable to keep up with the rush we have seen the line become disconnected on the inside where the big boys are. How many times have we seen Earl rush past the first receiver almost into no mans land covering no attacker. It looks like a system without any guidance. Tome Wright, Ikitau and a number of Wallabies went back to this soft centre as did Williams, Jordan and several others. Also when the line is broken the multiple lines of defence seems to be missing. The rush is predicated on a cover and recovery system with multiple lines of defence but with England you dont see it any more. Fitness and conditioning seems to be off as well as players are struggling to keep up with the intensity of the rush. Felix Jones has left a huge hole. The whole situation was and is a mess. Why they insist on not letting him go and having him work remotely is beyond me. Its leading to massive negative press and is a hot button issue thats distracting from the squad. Also the communication around Jones and his role has been absolute rubbish and is totally disjointed. While some say he is working remotely and playing a role others are saying theres been no contact. His role has not been defined and so people keep asking and keep getting different answers. England need a clean break from him and need to start over. Whatever reason for his leaving its time to cut the rope before the saga drags the whole Borthwick regime down. As for Joe El Abd well good luck to him. He is being made to look like an amateur by the whole saga and he is being asked to coach a system thats not his and which has been perfected and honed since 2017 by Nienaber, Jones, Erasmus and Co and which was first started by White in 2004. He is literally trying to figure out a system pioneered by double world cup winning coaches at the highest level and coach it at the same time. Talk about being on a hiding to nothing.
