Pretty sure if the French international coach thinks this was a deliberate attempt to injure his star player, then there must be at least some precedent for it. It's not like Galthié was born yesterday, he's been around the block. Players do try and injure each other and I don't think it's a coincidence this awful challenge was on Dupont. When he made contact with Dupont's exposed leg Beirne was horizontal. Malicious or just utterly reckless, that ain't rucking.

Andy Goode led the campaign to get Borthwick installed as England coach in 2022, and has then spent the next two years implausibly arguing that everything good about England has been driven by the players, not the coaches.

If Goode is right about Borthwick being useless then that just discredits his own previous support of him, but it is noteworthy that Goode has never presented any evidence in support of the narrative of player-revolt. Notably those who have much greater access behind-the-scenes in the England camp (e.g. For the Love of Rugby) never seem to share Goode’s interpretation of the goings on there.

At this point though, whatever you think of Borthwick, or the style of rugby he plays, I hope we can all agree that Goode’s opinions aren’t worth the paper they’re written on (which is to say - given they aren’t written on paper - that they’re worth less than £0).

The structure of the national game in Ireland is small and doesn’t really need or require comparison with SA or FRA for example. It’s never been our way for wholesale changes and bleeding 6 or 7 new players across 5 games of the 6Nations.

Likely 3rd place finish and a triple crown while in the beginning of a soft rebuild, albeit in some key positions. They don’t obsess over 4 year world cup cycles as their is silverware up for grabs (Slam/Championship/3crown) every season.

They are clearly short in some positions and Prendergast is learning the hard way but there’s still more than 25 caps up for grabs between now and the next RWC.

The FFR head blamed the ref. Galthie indirectly blamed the ref by publicly saying the situation was incomprehensible, that a citation would be necessary.

Protecting opposing players is also part of Galthies reposnibilities.

France have more red cards under Galthie for dangerous headshots than all other six nation combined.

The Reports ARE PUBLIC (see below). This is where I get my information from. There is NO lack of transparency. When Galthie was demanding detail on the Ringrose report all had to do was wait a day for the detailed decision. He knows all this and he knows that fallow weeks make Ntamacks a different case to Ringrose.

Precedent for Ringrose decision is Atonio (2023), Haouas (2023) and Danty (2024) all France. Precedent for Ntamack is O’Mahony (2021) Ireland although Willemse (2024) France, succeeded in having in having club matches count.

Note also in the Ntamack written decision the Wales doctor says full broken nose and bone displacement for Thomas. An injury should warrant a hig entry level ban for Ntamack. The summary said ‘No Injury’ though. Ntamack got his special treatmenet for his cheapshot on Thomas.

Galthie at hearing (in bold is the exact reason that Galthie knew exactky the issue with Ntamack compared to Ringrose and all those French players who historically benfitted): “It is a quirk of the Six Nations that there are two fallow weeks where players can be released back to their clubs. Establishing that a player was “expected to play” for his club in the first fallow week is very difficult in the context of red cards / citations following Six Nations match week 1 fixtures. The biggest variable – performance in match week 2 – is not yet known, and without that information France Men’s Head Coach cannot say definitively (nor is he required to say under the terms of the FFR / LNR Agreement) whether after match week 1 a player would have been designated for the first fallow week.”
