Gatland names Wales team for first England double-header

Head coach Warren Gatland has named his Wales team to play England in the first of their two Rugby World Cup warm-ups against their traditional rivals in Twickenham this Sunday.

Alun Wyn Jones will become his country’s most capped rugby player of all time on Sunday when he leads Wales against England at Twickenham.

Hi Sb Glad we can reach a consensus. But your point is also valid.The number 10 is the so called General of the team.He muat be able to read the game.Maybe Manie must just go against coaches plan if he see things is not going our way.Hopefully if he gets another chance this year he can learn from his mistakes.Lets see Saturday what happens.I know the team that Rassie selected will be difficult to beat.My only concern is the 2027 world cup and not giving youngster like Morne a chance.What do you think?

Because everyone has been blinded by the flash stuff. I'm not saying BB (and DMac) is not a great rugby player but he's simply not a 10 that manages the game and drives the team/ game plan. For several years now the AB back line has been less than the sum of it's parts.

Good analysis Nick but for me you dont give credit enough where it’s due with the big GREEN elephant in the room being…… how bloody sublime was that SA attack for their first 3 tries!!! Wave after wave of controlled pace of attack manipulating inviting selecting even which Wallabies to ‘contact’ with > the quick and clean recycle to go again. Backs attacking with just the right amount of depth to draw and pass, draw and pass to ‘slip’ a green jersey through for a try.

I know the rah rah is all about the Wallabies comeback and the Bok capitulation and deservedly so but personally as an AB fan I am still scarily confronted by how ‘perfect’ Brownie had that V12 76’ E-type Jaguar ‘purring’ …..before it got parked up and Siya and his mates decided to bring out the Toyota Corolla.

While Razor makes some questionable rational decisions, I don’t think you can question his loyalty to the team and country like this. He’s absolutely going to do what is right, and that obviously has the future in mind, post his term at the WC, through to the Lions. He is going to keep the same 10 in the spotlight for both, that is without doubt. It’s what is right, and what everyone knows you should do.

Mo’unga will be a great back up option to Dmac. Money well spent, and on the topic of precedent for players leaving, I don’t think many would be happy to do so for these crumbs. It would be entirely different if you were any other team of course, which is where a lot of people go wrong, and if there wasn’t a Lions series following. In any of those other situations one might definitely go for the short term gain of throwing him in there and come out trumps.

I suppose the real contrast is one was the 10 in the winning team in 7 consecutive super rugby finals and the other the other was the 10 in the losing team in 4 super rugby finals.

Yes, we bask in the sunshine now, but so aware of the big ominous clouds sweeping in over “The fairest Cape in all the world. But clouds don’t always deliver the weather they promise, and that is the challenge for the Boks this coming weekend. They have to lift from one of the heaviest defeats in their history, And this was a team coached by Rassie Erasmus, two time RWC winner, and the man who has raised Springbok rugby to world No. 1 status.

Make no mistake, the WB’s won’t be in any mood to lie down. Far more battle hardened now than a year ago when we saw them easily dispose of them at Suncorp with relative ease. I don’t know what the injury staus of all players is, but that will play a part. Cheslin Kolbe called up, and I would see Pollard starting. This will be a different game, and maybe one where Tony Brown won’t be sitting right beside Rassie in the box.

Not sure I’d say Reece is in the form of his life - he’s been solid without being outstanding. Caleb Clarke is injured alongside a lack of form.
