Gloucester player ratings vs Exeter | 2024/25 Gallagher Premiership
Gloucester player ratings: George Skivington’s men delivered one of their most dominant performances in recent memory, thrashing Exeter Chiefs 79-17 at Kingsholm to keep their Gallagher Premiership play-off hopes very much alive.
We rate the Gloucester players:
1. Val Rapava-Ruskin – N/A
Lasted just nine minutes before departing but helped shove Exeter back early. A shame for Gloucester’s human bulldozer but Jamal Ford-Robinson filled in capably.
2. Seb Blake – 8.5
A huge shift before handing over to Singleton. Bulldozed over for Gloucester’s second try and was at the heart of everything good at close quarters.
3. Afolabi Fasogbon – 7.5
Solid at scrum time and helped Gloucester establish early dominance. Left the field at the 53-minute mark with the job very much done.
4. Arthur Clark – 7.5
Worked hard in the engine room, helping to keep the Gloucester lineout steady as a rock. Didn’t get many flashy moments but kept the tight work ticking over.
5. Freddie Thomas – 8
Made some bruising carries early on and was sharp around the fringes. His offloading game caused plenty of chaos for Rob Baxter’s men.
6. Jack Clement – 8
Crashed over for the opening try inside six minutes to get the rout underway. Had Exeter running for the hills before a head knock forced him off early.
7. Lewis Ludlow – 8
Scooped a clever kick from Anscombe to score Gloucester’s third try, celebrating like a man who hadn’t scored since dial-up internet was a thing. A big shift.
8. Ruan Ackermann – 8
Carried relentlessly, often dragging defenders with him and creating front-foot ball for Gloucester’s backs to exploit. Key link man for two early tries and looked close to getting one himself.
9. Tomos Williams – 8.5
Slick and sharp. Took advantage of a fractured Exeter defence to touch down before halftime, and sniped holes in the line all afternoon. His pass that skipped out five players in the lead-up to his own try was sublime.
10. Gareth Anscombe – 8
Set the tone with an early assist for Ludlow and scored himself with a clean break. Looked like he had a remote control for the game for much of the first half.
11. Jake Morris – 7.5
It was a free-for-all for others yet Morris didn’t quite find his way over the tryline, but that’s not to say he had a bad game by any stretch. Kept busy chasing kicks, making metres where he could and making Exeter defenders look foolish.
12. Seb Atkinson – 8.5
A composed and authoritative presence in the midfield. Scored two well-taken tries, running strong support lines and showing excellent timing to exploit gaps in the Exeter defence. Can surely expect a phone call from Steve Borthwick?
13. Chris Harris – 8
A commanding performance in the midfield. Took his try with real authority, running a smart support line, and defensively he was outstanding, shutting down Exeter’s attempts to attack wide.
14. Christian Wade – 8
Rolled back the years with a trademark line break and classy finish, although he fell off a tackle on Haydon Wood on his way to a late Exeter consolation. The Wigan Warriors-bound winger made 91 metres with ball in hand and generally had Exeter defenders in a perpetual state of panic. Moved up to third on the Premiership all-time try-scorer list with his 90th effort, drawing even with Mark Cueto.
15. Santiago Carreras – 9
Electrifying. Ripped Exeter apart with scything breaks, created tries left and right, and barely looked like he was sweating.
REPLACEMENTS
16. Jack Singleton – 9
The ultimate “impact sub.” Bagged a 10-minute hat-trick off the pine like a man who had double-booked dinner plans.
17. Jamal Ford-Robinson – 8
Straight into the action with a close-range try and added some low centre-of-gravity violence at scrum time.
18. Kirill Gotovtsev – 6.5
Helped keep the set-piece ticking over in the second half.
19. Cameron Jordan – 7
Arrived late but threw himself into the heavy traffic. No nonsense.
20. Freddie Clarke – 6
A solid impact from the bench.
21. Caolan Englefield – 7
Kept the tempo high in the final quarter. Got the ball away quickly to keep the scoreboard whirring.
22. Charlie Atkinson – 7
Helped close out the game sensibly. Picked his passes well as Gloucester refused to take their foot off Exeter’s throat.
23. Jack Cotgreave – 7.5
Made one crucial defensive read to shut down a rare Chiefs attack late on.
