Harlequins player ratings vs Leicester Tigers | 2024/25 Gallagher Premiership
Harlequins player ratings: Leicester Tigers took a giant stride to the Gallagher Premiership play-offs, and possibly a home semi-final, with a 40-7 victory over Harlequins at Welford Road on Saturday.
The result extended Quins’ losing run to four matches, shipping over 40 points in each one of those fixtures.
This was yet again far from the outfit that has lit up English rugby over the past few years, as Quins looked toothless in attack.
Here’s how the players rated:
15. Tyrone Green – 4
Fizzed around early on with some lively runs, but his potency died out. His yellow card for a deliberate knock-on compounded Quins’ misery when they were already down to 14 men.
14. Cameron Anderson – 3
Started the game with jackal turnover, but it went sour after that. An unwise attempted high-ball take resulted in a first-half yellow card- the hosts exploited his vacant right flank to score their second try. Troubling scenes as he repeated the same offence in the second half, resulting in a red.
13. Oscar Beard – 6
Defended his channel astutely against a Tigers outfit that looked to put width on the ball.
12. Luke Northmore – 6
Went toe-to-toe with the hard-running Solomone Kata, depriving his opposite man of time and space throughout. His interception before the break gave Quins a foothold in the game, but it was ultimately in vain.
11. Cadan Murley – 5
Left flat-footed for Leicester’s opener, and though there were some impressive moments – chiefly a turnover in his 22 – he was starved of the ball.
10. Marcus Smith – 4
Battled on with yards of strapping around his ankle after shaking off an early collision. Put some probing kicks into the Leicester 22, but the injury appeared to take the effervescence out of his running, which was desperately needed.
9. Lewis Gjaltema – 5
Some questionable decision-making at times, which put his team-mates under unnecessary pressure. Cannot be entirely to blame, but no attack will ever function well if the scrum-half is stuttering.
1. Fin Baxter – 4
Distributed the ball well as Quins arrived to play some rugby early on, but, like many players in his side, faded into anonymity as the match developed.
2. Jack Walker – 5
Some wobbly lineout throws, but otherwise a decent effort where he front-up against the Leicester pack in the tight.
3. Titi Lamositele – 5
Pinged at the scrum early on, but steadied himself in the set-piece thereafter.
4. Irne Herbst – 6
With Quins looking threadbare in the second-row department, the South African stepped up with some punchy carries and a hunger to get his hands on the ball during his 47 minutes on the field- topping the carry count when he exited.
5. George Hammond – 5
Lasted the full match, which was a tiring shift given the state his side were in in the second 40.
6. Chandler Cunningham-South – 4
Ran hard and aggressively as usual, but was perhaps guilty of being loose with possession at times.
7. Jack Kenningham – 6
Another masterclass over the ball early on, swooping into rucks at crucial times. Those promising moments could not carry a side that were overwhelmed by the Tigers in the end.
8. Alex Dombrandt – 5
His work on the floor deprived Leicester of what appeared to be an inevitable try in the opening quarter. There were some bright flashes from the Quins captain, but it is hard to carry a team forward when your numbers are depleted. Shifted to the centres for the end of the match.
Replacements – 5
The combination of the red card, injuries and just a poor performance in general meant the replacements had an uphill task in the second half and did very little to change the game. Half-backs Jake Murray and Jamie Benson looked bright, but this was the kind of game where back-row Tom Lawday was forced to replace an injured Marcus Smith, which indicated how Quins’ match, and season as a whole, unravelled in the Midlands.
