Harlequins raid Championship for 'well balanced' fly half
Harlequins have made their 11th signing of the week by raiding the Championship for a highly rated fly half.
Brett Herron is joining from Jersey Reds for the 2019/20 season.
The 23-year-old, who can also provide cover at Fullback, is a product of the prestigious rugby school Wellington College, and made his debut for Bath United in 2014 before moving to for Ulster where he made eight appearances.
Herron then joined Jersey Reds last season and, having put in an eye-catching performance against Harlequins in last summer’s pre-season fixture between the clubs, has been a stand-out player for the Channels Islands’ side all season scoring over 100 points in 21 matches as they have risen to third in the Greene King Championship.
Herron said he was looking forward to the challenge of playing for a Gallagher Premiership side that will be battling for honours at home and abroad.
“It is an honour to be signing for a Club with the prestige and heritage as Harlequins,” said Herron. “The set-up at Harlequins is first-class and I know Paul Gustard and his team have built a strong winning culture there this season and the momentum is with them.
“Harlequins already has some excellent talent at Fly-half and I look forward to competing for a first-team place and being part of a successful future at The Stoop.”
Head of Rugby Gustard added: “Brett is a great talent and we are very excited about him coming to Quins. He will add competition for places and I look forward to the contribution he can make as we look to grow and develop our game over the coming seasons.
“He has been a key player for Jersey Reds and impressed us with his performance last summer in our pre-season fixture. He is a well balanced player whose game management caught our attention and he has been progressing nicely in a competitive league.
“We know he has the desire to develop and under the tutelage of Nick and Mark, two former international Fly-halves themselves, and we believe we offer him a perfect environment to fulfil his ambition.”
