Henshaw's Lions tour could be over - Gatland

Ireland international Robbie Henshaw

Robbie Henshaw looks unlikely to play any part in the remaining two Tests against New Zealand after suffering a shoulder injury in the British and Irish Lions’ 31-31 draw with the Hurricanes.

The Ireland centre was handed the chance to impress Warren Gatland in Tuesday’s clash in Wellington but his participation ended after 19 minutes.

Henshaw was replaced by Leigh Halfpenny and had to watch on as the Lions opened up a 31-17 lead before allowing the Hurricanes to salvage a draw.

With only the two Tests left against the All Blacks, Henshaw looks to have missed the chance force his way into contention, but Gatland is not expecting the 24-year-old to be fit anyway.

“Henshaw is in a sling,” he told a post-match media conference.

“He doesn’t look good. There is a good chance his tour could be over.”

The Lions meet the All Blacks in Wellington on Saturday needing a win to keep the series alive ahead of the final match in Auckland on July 8.
