Hurricanes name physical team to contend with top dog Chiefs
A Hurricanes side gaining momentum will host the top-of-the-table Chiefs in round 12, and head coach Clark Laidlaw has named a largely similar matchday 23 from the one that beat the Brumbies last week for the occasion.
Some changes in the front row see the return of Asafo Aumua, allowing Raymond Tuputupu to return to the bench. Tyrel Lomax also re-joins the starting unit after offering bench impact in round 11.
Isaia Walker-Leawere is also back after a spell on the sidelines, starting in place of Zach Gallgher, who returns to the bench.
The final change in the forward pack is that of Brayden Iose, who has been named to start on the blindside flank in his 50th game for the club.
An identical backline from the Brumbies win has been named, both starting and bench units.
“Good to be back home. We have had an excellent week back so far, connecting with our families and our clubs,” Laidlaw said.
“We’re excited for the game this weekend, Chiefs are the top of the table, and we know what sort of challenge that will present. It’ll be a good opportunity to test ourselves this weekend and build a bit of momentum off the back of what we have created over the last few games.
“We can’t wait to play at home and hopefully it’s a big crowd to bring the energy to SKY Stadium for Club Round.”

Like the starting XV, this could be it’s knockout team.
DMacs hand injury? Broken like Barretts?
I’m also fascinated at which 10 will outperform his opposite- Josh Jacombs who has been solid, not spectacular, this season when playing 10 versus Ruben Love in only his third start at 10 in Super Rugby.
Should be a fantastic battle between two outstanding loose forward trios. Chiefs’ trio is larger but the Canes’ back row is more athletic.
The Chiefs should prevail in this one as they appear likely to have the edge up front. Canes to win need to achieve parity or close to and trust that their talented backs can do the job. This could a season defining match for both sides especially the Canes.
I don’t know what they have to bring out seperate articles for each game.
