Waikato winger and News Zealand age grade rep Sevu Reece has signed a contract with Irish Pro 14 club Connacht.

The 21-year-old Fijian moved to New Zealand in 2014 where he played for Hamilton Boys High School and became a part of the Waikato system. He played for the New Zealand schoolboys in 2015, starting on the wing in a 32-8 win over Australian schools.

Reece will play a final season of Mitre 10 Cup with Waikato before moving to Ireland to join Connacht. He could follow in the footsteps of Ireland international Bundee Aki, who has been with Connacht since leaving the Chiefs and Counties in 2014.

Reece did not play for an international under-20 side so could potentially represent Fiji, New Zealand or Ireland in due time if he completes eligibility under residency rules.

He is excited to take the next step forward in his rugby career.

“I am really pleased to be signing for Connacht next season. Connacht is a proud club with a passionate support and I am looking forward to meeting the fans and my new team mates when I arrive there at the end of my season with Waikato. I will be doing everything I can to bring more success to the province.”
