Irish womens prop hits out at verbal abuse from spectator
Irish womens prop Leah Lyons took to Twitter to call out a spectator who likened her to a farm animal during a Womens Six Nations game between Ireland and Wales on the weekend.
Lyons by all accounts put in a fantastic performance in Ireland’s win over Wales but sadly the day was soured when it was relayed to her that a spectator had described her a ‘heifer’ during the game.
What made the incident more shameful was the fact that it was a couple of seats away from Lyons’ family, who were at the game.
“Poor choice of wording from a man in the crowd [Irish] yesterday… ‘heifer’, relating to myself,” the 24-year-old wrote on Twitter.
So after a great win yesterday, this was relayed to me.. ain’t got nothing good to say, say nothing at all #womensrugby #6nations #sillyman #notcool #IREvWAL #wrugby #thinkbeforeyouspeak pic.twitter.com/9Zg6fUMCeZ

“Rugby is a game for all. No one is perfect. I realise I’m an example of that but have a bit of respect,” said Lyons.
Lyons also said she was happy to hear that the man was confronted.
“Good to hear that someone in the crowd gave you a flake of a flag and told you be quiet. Ain’t got nothing good to say, say nothing at all.”
Ireland Women produced a hugely impressive performance as they overwhelmed Wales to take their second win of the Women’s Six Nations, running out 35-12 winners in Donnybrook.
