'It is obviously a shame' - Sinoti Sinoti leaves Newcastle Falcons days before new season begins for 'personal reasons'

Electrifying winger Sinoti Sinoti has walked away from Newcastle Falcons, just days before the new season gets underway, for ‘personal reasons’.

Sinoti’s ankle-breaking sidesteps and ability to beat defenders from a standing start made him one of the clubs most entertaining and effective attacking threats. He scored 23 tries in 110 appearances and created many more for his teammates since joining the club in 2013.

It is unclear what lies in the immediate future for 35-year-old Samoan, who has appeared nine times for his country.

Hamish Watson talks to big Jim about the Lions:

“It’s not hard to understand why Sinoti is so popular with our supporters, because he plays the game with a smile on his face and is always looking to be a positive attacking force,” said Director of Rugby Dean Richards.

“He has been part of some big moments for us during his seven years here including our fourth-placed Premiership finish in 2018, two huge games at St James’ Park, Heineken Champions Cup wins over Toulon and Montpellier, being shortlisted twice for Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and being selected in the Premiership Team of the Season.

“It is obviously a shame to see a player of his ability move on for personal reasons so close to the start of the Gallagher Premiership season, but we thank him for everything he has done during his time here and wish him and his family all the best for whatever lies ahead.”

Sinoti gave a fond farewell to the club’s supporters: “For almost eight years Newcastle has been my home, the Falcons have been my club and my team-mates have been my brothers.

“I have given everything I could as a player, and every time I put that jersey on it was done with nothing but pride and passion.

“Some people may love me as a player and some may not, but I hope that whether or not you like my style of play I have left a good impression as a person, and that people respect me as a man.

“I am grateful for my time here, I am grateful for the relationships I have built with supporters, staff, players and everyone at the club. I am nothing but grateful for it all. Sinoti, Tooning out!”

Commentator's reason for backing Billy Proctor-Barrett combination in the AB's

Yes, Tupaea is playing well. But that is at Super Rugby level. David Havili also plays well at Super Rugby level; but he hasn’t been able to carry that form to internationals. Tupaea is in a similar category to Havili, a good all around player, but lacks the explosive pace to be a dominant international 12.

Part of the issue is that defenses in Super Rugby aren’t quite as good and aggressive as the northern/Springbok style rush defenses. The pressure test isn’t the same. Players can flourish in Super Rugby, but get suffocated in internationals as they are not used to northern/Springbok style rush defenses.

The All Black backline hasn’t been consistently good since 2015. They’ve had some great games e.g. the RWC 2019 quarter final. But they’ve lacked the penetration and distribution to unlock the back three and/or getting the offloading game going consistently. As good as Sonny Bill Williams was, after he did his Achilles he didn’t have the explosive pace Nonu had.

The All Blacks need a Ma’a Nonu 2.0 player at 12. They need a 12 who can: break through defenses, is fast enough that they can beat the cover over 40-50 meters, and can offload. They also need a 13 that can pass.

The player who has that at 12, who is also eligible for the All Blacks, is Tavatavanawai. He has the aggression and pace of a Nonu 2.0 type player, but is a bit raw at 12 - worth a shot though.

I suggested that Fainga'anuku could be awesome at 12 as he was mentioned in the comment I was replying to.

But I’d give Tavatavanawai a shot at 12 and put J Barrett at 13. J Barrett has all the skills of a 13, and he can distribute - which the biggest missing piece in the All Blacks backline (R Ioane on the bench, covering 11, 13, and 14).

Why the ‘State of Origin’ will have a big say in Schmidt’s Wallabies selection

I was scammed out of $230,000 after investing in a scheme introduced to me by a friend on Facebook. Initially, it seemed legitimate, and I was excited about the potential returns.
