Jones: Ireland have psychological advantage over vulnerable England

England head coach Eddie Jones

England head coach Eddie Jones claimed Ireland have an “enormous” psychological advantage over his record-equalling but “vulnerable” side.

It was a night to remember for England, who secured a second successive Six Nations title with a 61-21 rout of Scotland on Saturday.

The demolition was England’s 18th consecutive win, equalling New Zealand’s record for the most victories in succession by a tier-one Test side.

England now have the opportunity to set a world record for consecutive Test wins as they also eye a Grand Slam in Dublin next week but Jones is wary of Ireland.

“Ireland, psychologically, are in a very strong position,” Jones said.

“They’re beaten, they’re out of the tournament and they love spoiling parties.

“And the party they’d love to spoil the most is the England party. They’ve got an enormous amount of psychological advantage.

“We’re vulnerable, because we’ve won, we’re champions of the Six Nations. We’re going to have to work really hard to get ourselves right for the game. And we will.”
